After recently teasing the first look at the Joker character out of makeup, along with the name of this version of the Clown Prince of Crime (Arthur Fleck), director Todd Phillips has released a behind-the-scenes production look at Joaquin Phoenix wearing full makeup and costume as the Joker.
It’s unclear if this is the final makeup design for the film, but it falls in line with the look of this Joker being a failed-comedian-turned-supervillain. Phillips and Warner Bros. have been open to sharing some tidbits with fans, so we should get more looks at the making of Joker in the coming months.
The Joker origin film is separate from the DC Universe, and it’s set in the 1980s. Warner Bros.’ Joker is lower cost, and it’s considered a different type of film that’s more focused on the character—it’s described as “not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.” Aside from Phoenix in the lead, the film also stars Zazie Beetz, Marc Aaron, and Robert De Niro.
Joker is currently in production and hits theaters October 4, 2019.
That dancing though…. creepy.
Cannot wait.
