HBO Announces True Detective Season 3 Will Officially Premiere January 13

It has been known that Season 3 of HBO’s hit crime series True Detective would premiere January 2019, and the show now has an official debut date. The first episode of Season 3 will air on January 13. HBO revealed more information about the upcoming season in a statement:

The new season tells the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods. Mahershala Ali stars as Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas. Carmen Ejogo and Stephen Dorff also star. Created by Nic Pizzolatto.

HBO also released six photos from the upcoming season, all of which can be found in the link above. Oscar winner Mahershala Ali, as Wayne Hays, looks to be intently questioning and thinking in the photos, but they all appear to be in the past for the decades-spanning story.

This move to multiple timelines falls in line with what the series did in its very highly-acclaimed first season starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. And like the first two seasons, this third season will be eight episodes.

True Detective returns from its over-three-year hiatus January 13 at 9:00 PM on HBO.
