Top Movies To Look Forward To In 2022

Happy New Year! Movies appear “back” after Spider-Man: No Way Home quickly hit one billion dollars at the box office, and the next 12 months provide plenty more to look forward to. At the start of the year, these are among the films to look forward to most in 2022.

10. Elvis

Release date: June 24, 2022

Comic-book films Black Adam, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and Moribus all could have made the top ten, but the biopic on the great musician Elvis Presley needs a spot on the list. The so-called “King of Rock and Roll” will be played by Austin Butler, who has similar enough looks that it feels like he might kill it in the role. And Elvis might not be that well known by younger generations, so a big Hollywood movie (also starring Tom Hanks) might help with that.

9. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Release date: May 6, 2022

Not much will be given away here in this write up for those not caught up with all the Marvel television series and movies, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe will continue with the latest Doctor Strange film this year.

8. Death on the Nile

Release date: February 11, 2022

In the follow up to the well-received Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile also has an extremely deep star-studded cast (led by star-director Kenneth Branagh as Hercule Poirot and Gal Gadot). Who isn’t intrigued by a murder mystery?

7. Knives Out 2

Release date: TBA 2022

Speaking of murder mysteries, Knives Out is also getting its sequel this year, and Daniel Craig is also back as a detective (Benoit Blanc) to headline a deep cast. Like its predecessor, Knives Out 2 is an original story despite its influence from Agatha Christie (author of Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile) and other mystery novels.

6. The Flash

Release date: November 4, 2022

If you are reading this article, you probably are not totally in the dark and have heard that Michael Keaton will be back as Batman/Bruce Wayne in The Flash. From there, there’s a lot of mystery, but The Flash might be a jumping-off point for the DCEU’s future path.

5. Avatar 2

Release date: December 16, 2022

Set to finally release over a decade after the groundbreaking original film, Avatar 2 makes the top five in large part because of how long the wait was—and because of the excitement for the future releases in the franchise throughout this decade. However, another record-setting box-office this time around is asking for a bit much.

4. Top Gun: Maverick

Release date: May 27, 2022

A much longer wait was for that of the sequel for Top Gun, as Top Gun: Maverick will release over three decades after the original fighter-pilot classic—with Tom Cruise back as “Maverick”. Top Gun: Maverick should be one of the hits of the summer.

3. Thor: Love and Thunder

Release date: July 8, 2022

Legendary actor Christian Bale (he’s probably earned that status despite being just 47 years old) as a villain in a Thor film? Thor: Love and Thunder will be among the year’s best.

2. Killers of the Flower Moon

Release date: TBA 2022

Unlike eight of the other nine films on the list, there is no release date for Killers of the Flower Moon. But the Martin Scorsese film—based on the 2017 book and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro—appears to have the makings of another classic.

1. The Batman

Release date: March 4, 2022

Finally, some might be tired of yet another Batman (and yet another superhero film), but The Batman looks like an awesome original take on the character by director Matt Reeves. Based on the trailers, Robert Pattinson and the cast were a homerun, and there’s already talk that this likely trilogy is trying to challenge Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy. Quite the lofty standards.
