Top Ten Tuesday: TV Shows To Watch In 2022

After giving props to the best television series of last year, this week’s Top Ten Tuesday highlights the top TV shows to look forward to in 2022.

10. Moon Knight and Secret Invasion (Disney+)

2022 looks like a great year for television, so there are plenty more that could have made the top ten, including Pam & Tommy (even solely because of how much Lily James, as Pamela Anderson, and Sebastian Stan, as Tommy Lee, look like the real-life people they are playing). However, these upcoming Marvel series on Disney+ have been shroud in secrecy and should be good judging from the quality Disney+ has produced.

9. Halo (Paramount+)

Finally, after a long path (starting with Steven Spielberg being attached as an executive producer), the Halo series is set to launch on Paramount+ this year. Based on Xbox’s headlining video game franchise, there’s plenty of story to tell in a Halo television show.

8. The Crown (Netflix)

Thought to be the penultimate season of The Crown, you can expect high-quality and historically accurate television from the Netflix series. Season 5 is set to focus on Queen Elizabeth II and will also include Princess Diana (played by Elizabeth Debicki).

7. Peaky Blinders (Netflix)

Peaky Blinders is one spot ahead of The Crown because this will be the final season of the Netfilx/BBC series. Though relatively under the radar compared to more mainstream American shows, Peaky Blinders has been among the best TV series over the past several years.

6. Ted Lasso (Apple TV+)

There hasn’t been much talk about its exact release schedule, but Ted Lasso is fully expected to hit Apple TV+ sometime this summer. Following a very strong second season, it’ll be interesting to see how things unfold for AFC Richmond.

5. The Lord of the Rings (Amazon)

Amazon is seemingly looking to create their own Game of Thrones for Prime Video, and winning the rights (for $250 million with a production commitment of over $1 billion) to the epic J. R. R. Tolkien tale leads to massive expectations. The Lord of the Rings will premiere on Prime Video in September.

4. Obi-Wan Kenobi (Disney+)

Disney+ has done a nice job of putting out a ton of content on its streaming platform, utilizing the intellectual property it owns like Star Wars and Marvel. What makes the Obi-Wan Kenobi series so exciting is that Ewan McGregor is back as the title character and Hayden Christensen is back as Darth Vader. The show is set ten years after Revenge of the Sith.

3. Ozark (Netflix)

The fourth and final season of Ozark is split into two parts, but both are expected to be released in 2022. We’ll get the first part this month, but the show will ultimately attempt to end things in a way that puts it among the best series in history.

2. Better Call Saul (AMC)

As a prequel series to Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul had a lot to live up to on AMC. But things could not have gone much better for a fantastic series that’s matched the standards set by its predecessor and Mad Men as classics for the network. Better Call Saul has a major challenge giving proper endings to several superb characters while tying everything up.

1. House of the Dragon (HBO)

Game of Thrones was the biggest show in the world for years, and after a little bit of breathing room (the third anniversary of the series finale will be this May), the first prequel series—House of the Dragon, focusing on the Targaryen dynasty 300 years before the events of Thrones—will premiere on HBO and HBO Max this year. Expect a spring release that falls in line with most seasons of Game of Thrones.
