Team of the Week

 

QB: Patrick Mahomes, KC

He didn’t go crazy against the Eagles in terms of yardage (278), but Kansas City’s fancy plays near the end zone led to five touchdowns for Mahomes, and his 31.72 fantasy points were exactly what people were hoping for. Next up is a Sunday Night Football clash against the Bills.

 

RB: Cordarrelle Patterson, ATL

Patterson has quickly turned into a complete monster with Atlanta, and yesterday was a career day in which he caught five passes for 82 yards and three touchdowns (plus six carries for 34 yards). The amount of ways Patterson has contributed is reason to believe he will stay hot, and the veteran is arguably a top-20 option the rest of the way.

 

RB: Saquon Barkley, NYG

He was bottled up for the better part of four quarters, but Barkley broke out with a 54-yard touchdown reception with under seven minutes to play in regulation, and then capped off the comeback with a six-yard score in overtime. Even for tough potential matchups over the next two weeks (@ DAL, v LAR), Barkley is back to strong, every-week RB1 status.

 

WR: Tyreek Hill, KC

Philadelphia decided to take away Travis Kelce rather than Hill (which was somewhat surprising), and they paid for it by allowing an 11/186/3 line. The highlight was the game-sealing, 44-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter where the Eagles somehow allowed him to be singled up on safety Anthony Harris.

 

WR: Deebo Samuel, SF

The clear WR1 for San Francisco through four weeks, Samuel had a monster performance with eight receptions, 156 yards, and two touchdowns in a loss to Seattle. Usage in Kyle Shanahan’s offense makes it not matter whether it’s Jimmy Garoppolo (calf) or rookie Trey Lance under center.

 

TE: C.J. Uzomah, CIN

Uzomah getting free for two scores was basically the difference in Jacksonville’s loss last Thursday night, and the big outing came out of nowhere with just 39 scoreless yards in the first three weeks. Still, those who used Uzomah in DFS lineups have to be happy, and he’s played at least 70% of the team’s offensive snaps in every game.

 

FLEX: Terry McLaurin, WAS

McLaurin was excellent in Week 4—catching six passes for 123 yards and two scores to help Washington win a shootout over Atlanta. Some had unwisely expressed displeasure about McLaurin through three games, but he’s cleared 62 yards every week.

 

D/ST: Bills

Weather played a factor, but rookie quarterback Davis Mills tossed four interceptions against the Bills, and overall, the Texans were limited to 109 total yards of offense in the shutout loss. Fantasy owners should be gearing up for New England’s defense taking on the Texans in Week 5.

 

K: Tyler Bass, BUF

Rain didn’t play a factor for Bass—who nailed four-of-four field goals and four-of-four PAT attempts to continue a hot start to the season. He’s been impressive enough that Josh Allen talked him up following the game.

Surprise of the Week: Giants offense

Sunday was supposed to be a spot where New Orleans would create chaos for their first game in front of the Superdome crowd, but that didn’t happen, and Daniel Jones tossed for a season-high 402 passing yards in New York’s victory. Jones, Saquon Barkley (previously discussed), Kenny Golladay (six receptions for 116 yards), and even rookie Kadarius Toney (six receptions for 78 yards) all shined.

 

Disappointment of the Week: Sony Michel

We might be able to chalk up Michel’s day to being part of a throw-out-the-tape game for Los Angeles, but a lost fumble gave him negative fantasy points, and he didn’t receive a touch after the turnover. Darrell Henderson, on the other hand, looked healthy and totaled 116 yards on 19 touches, so it was obviously a disappointing game overall.

 

Rookie of the Week: DeVonta Smith

No rookies went crazy this week, but Smith had his first 100-yard game in the NFL by hauling in seven-of-ten targets for 122 yards. A couple of highlight grabs in the fourth quarter showed the kind of talent Smith has, and hopefully the passing attack is able to stay on track as the Eagles hit an important five-day stretch (@ CAR, v TB) starting this weekend and into next Thursday night.

 

Week 4 MVP: Cordarrelle Patterson

Patterson has been on a tear, and he’s almost a discounted cheat code in terms of his fantasy outlook. It’s asking a lot for the production to remain what it’s been (354 total yards and five total touchdowns through four games), but you have to stick with the hot hand when Atlanta faces the Jets next week in London.
