2020 Heisman Watch (Week 10)

With Trevor Lawrence dealing with COVID-19, does Mac Jones or Lawrence’s record-breaking teammate Travis Etienne take the top spot in the Heisman race?

1. Mac Jones | Alabama QB | Junior | Last week: 2 (+1)

Mac Jones should be getting more love for the Heisman, and he moves into the top spot of this week’s rankings. It looks like Jones is playing flag football with the way he chucks the ball down the field with exceptional accuracy, and the Crimson Tide quarterback connected with top target DeVonta Smith for four touchdowns over the weekend.

Season stats:

78.5% | 2,196 PASS YDS | 16 PASS TD | 2 INT

18 CAR | -9 RUSH YDS | 1 RUSH TD | -0.5 AVG

2. Travis Etienne | Clemson RB | Senior | Last week: 3 (+1)

Travis Etienne had a rare mistake with a fumble down by the goal line, but he was a critical part of Clemson making things right in their comeback win over Boston College. Etienne led the Tigers in both rushing (84 yards, touchdown) and receiving (140 yards, touchdown), and he’ll need to be big again in a top-five matchup this Saturday. Etienne also set the record for most rushing yards in ACC history and most games with a touchdown in FBS history.

Season stats:

103 CAR | 606 RUSH YDS | 9 RUSH TD | 5.9 AVG

29 REC | 434 REC YDS | 2 REC TD | 15.0 AVG

3. Trevor Lawrence | Clemson QB | Junior | Last week: 1 (-2)

The positive COVID-19 test unfortunately moves Trevor Lawrence out of the No. 1 spot in the Heisman race, and it ultimately might cost him the prestigious award. Lawrence will have to sit out this Saturday versus Notre Dame while other contenders will be able to gain ground in the discussion.

Season stats:

70.7% | 1,833 PASS YDS | 17 PASS TD | 2 INT

29 CAR | 71 RUSH YDS | 4 RUSH TD | 2.4 AVG

4. Najee Harris | Alabama RB | Senior | Last week: 4

Najee Harris has been a touchdown machine this season, but he finally did not find the end zone in Bama’s 41-0 rout of Mississippi State; however, the senior running back totaled over 150 yards for the undefeated Crimson Tide. Harris is off this week and will be set for a heavy workload against LSU in a couple of Saturdays.

Season stats:

124 CAR | 714 RUSH YDS | 14 RUSH TD | 5.8 AVG

20 REC | 183 REC YDS | 9.2 AVG

5. Justin Fields | Ohio State QB | Junior | Last week: NR

Efficiency has been the name of the game for Justin Fields through two games, as he hasn’t put up enormous volume passing numbers, but he’s moving the offense and throwing with accuracy all over the field. Fields nearly has as many touchdown passes (six) as incompletions (seven) through two weeks.

Season stats:

87.3% | 594 PASS YDS | 6 PASS TD

21 CAR | 50 RUSH YDS | 1 RUSH TD | 2.4 AVG

Just missed:

BYU QB Zach Wilson

Alabama WR DeVonta Smith

Florida QB Kyle Trask
