2022 MLB Power Rankings: June 27

Shuffling continues in this week’s 2022 MLB power rankings as we get set to conclude June and head into July.

1. New York Yankees (53-20) | Last week: 1

Getting no-hit on Saturday at Yankee Stadium was shocking, but the Yankees bounced back yesterday versus the Astros on Aaron Judge’s three-run walk-off home run. The Yankees are still 11.0 games up in the AL East and 6.5 games up on everyone else in baseball.

2. Los Angeles Dodgers (45-26) | Last week: 4 (+2)

Freddie Freeman had an emotional return to Atlanta over the weekend, and his new Dodgers squad was able to take two-of-three from his former team. Clayton Kershaw’s comments about Freeman were interesting, and he’s probably keeping in mind that the two clubs might be facing off in another NLCS this fall.

3. Houston Astros (45-27) | Last week: 5 (+2)

The no-hitter and the two-game sweep of the Mets are enough to push the Astros up a couple of spots in the power rankings and into the top three. Right now, Houston must feel good about their chances of going head-to-head with the Yankees in a potential postseason series.

4. New York Mets (47-27) | Last week: 2 (-2)

The Mets didn’t have a great week, going 3-3 including two losses to a strong Astros team. But they are still atop the National League, and Jacob de Grom is nearing a return—though Max Scherzer had a bit of a setback after there was hope he would be back yesterday.

5. Atlanta Braves (42-32) | Last week: 3 (-2)

The Braves have now cooled off considerably, losing two of their past three series—though one was against the Dodgers. Atlanta gets a day off before a critical early-summer series at Philadelphia.

6. Boston Red Sox (42-31) | Last week: 8 (+2)

The Red Sox haven’t lost a series this month, and they are now 42-31 following a clean sweep of the Guardians. After an 11-20 start to the season in what looked like it might be a long one in Boston, the Sox now have the third-best record in the American League.

7. San Diego Padres (45-30) | Last week: 6 (-1)

Manny Machado has missed more time than fans might have hoped with his ankle injury, and the Padres dropped three-of-four at home to the Phillies. Still, they’re just two games back of the Dodgers for first place in the NL West, with a four-game slate coming this weekend in LA.

8. Milwaukee Brewers (42-33) | Last week: 14 (+6)

You can shuffle around these next several spots, but the Brewers split four games with the Cardinals before a series victory versus the Jays. And it was a good sign that the offense has picked it up (25 runs over the past four games), so the division leaders rise six spots this week.

9. Philadelphia Phillies (39-35) | Last week: 9

Reigning NL MVP Bryce Harper unfortunately continues some bad injury luck, and he’s out indefinitely (likely over a month or two) with a fractured left thumb. However, the Phillies showed fight to conclude the weekend without their best player, and this situation could be something that makes them stronger as an all-around team if they can remain in the mix when Harper returns.

10. St. Louis Cardinals (41-34) | Last week: 12 (+2)

This No. 10 spot was probably the toughest, but the Cardinals are here despite just losing a series to the rival Cubs. St. Louis remains right on pace with the Brewers within the division, but they’ll be tested mightily in the first half of July, facing the Phillies, Braves, Phillies again, and the Dodgers.

11. Tampa Bay Rays (40-32) | Last week: 15 (+4)

12. Minnesota Twins (41-33) | Last week: 13 (+1)

13. Toronto Blue Jays (40-32) | Last week: 11 (-2)

14. San Francisco Giants (39-33) | Last week: 7 (-7)

15. Cleveland Guardians (36-32) | Last week: 10 (-5)

16. Los Angeles Angels (35-40) | Last week: 16

17. Texas Rangers (34-37) | Last week: 21 (+4)

18. Chicago White Sox (34-37) | Last week: 17 (-1)

19. Miami Marlins (33-38) | Last week: 19

20. Seattle Mariners (34-40) | Last week: 23 (+3)

21. Baltimore Orioles (34-40) | Last week: 22 (+1)

22. Arizona Diamondbacks (33-41) | Last week: 18 (-4)

23. Colorado Rockies (31-42) | Last week: 20 (-3)

24. Chicago Cubs (28-45) | Last week: 26 (+2)

25. Pittsburgh Pirates (29-43) | Last week: 24 (-1)

26. Detroit Tigers (28-44) | Last week: 25 (-1)

27. Kansas City Royals (26-45) | Last week: 27

28. Washington Nationals (27-48) | Last week: 29 (+1)

29. Oakland Athletics (25-49) | Last week: 30 (+1)

30. Cincinnati Reds (25-47) | Last week: 28 (-2)
