2022 MLB Power Rankings: May 16

A ton happened around Major League Baseball in the past week, including the struggling Reds throwing an no-hitter in a loss. Let’s get right to the latest power rankings.

1. New York Yankees (25-9) | Last week: 2 (+1)

After falling to No. 2 last week, the Yanks are back in the top spot. New York handled Toronto for two games before taking three-of-four from the White Sox over the weekend.

2. Los Angeles Angels (24-13) | Last week: 5 (+3)

As stated last week, this team just has a great feel to it. The Angels pitching staff has already tossed seven shutouts this season.

3. Houston Astros (23-12) | Last week: 7 (+4)

The Astros also have seven shutouts this season, tying their divisional foe for the MLB lead. And the upcoming schedule for Houston continues to look promising on paper.

4. Los Angeles Dodgers (21-12) | Last week: 1 (-3)

It was a pretty dreadful week for the Dodgers by their standards, losing a series to the Padres before getting rocked by the Phillies for three games—but a ninth-inning comeback yesterday salvaged things to some extent, and LA will look to bounce back this week.

5. New York Mets (23-13) | Last week: 3 (-2)

The Mets lost their first series of the season over the weekend to the Mariners, so it’s obviously been a strong overall start to 2022. But they might need some type of jolt after plateauing a bit as of late.

6. Milwaukee Brewers (22-13) | Last week: 4 (-2)

A series loss to the Reds was not ideal, but the Brewers bounced back to take their three-game series versus the Marlins. Milwaukee now returns home for a six-game homestand this week.

7. San Diego Padres (22-13) | Last week: 6 (-1)

The Padres won a wild game on Friday night in Atlanta, helping secure an eventually series victory. They’ll stay on the road all week, facing the Phillies before coming back west to play the Giants.

8. Tampa Bay Rays (21-14) | Last week: 9 (+1)

Rays pitching had a strong weekend in taking two games from the Blue Jays. Tampa Bay must take advantage of matchups with the Tigers and Orioles this week.

9. San Francisco Giants (20-14) | Last week: 10 (+1)

Not a great end to the week for the Giants, who faced Albert Pujols on the mound—but it was because the game was tilted so badly not in their favor that St. Louis felt OK doing that. The San Francisco offense will look to put up runs at Colorado starting tonight.

10. Philadelphia Phillies (17-18) | Last week: 20 (+10)

A hot streak or something more? Several teams could have taken the No. 10 spot this week, but the Phillies are the choice given how on-fire the offense—led by Bryce Harper, who was out yesterday and might miss another game or two after getting a shot for his partially torn UCL—has been.

11. Minnesota Twins (20-15) | Last week: 8 (-3)

12. St. Louis Cardinals (19-15) | Last week: 11 (-1)

13. Chicago White Sox (16-17) | Last week: 12 (-1)

14. Toronto Blue Jays (18-17) | Last week: 13 (-1)

15. Atlanta Braves (16-19) | Last week: 14 (-1)

16. Cleveland Guardians (16-17) | Last week: 16

17. Colorado Rockies (17-17) | Last week: 15 (-2)

18. Arizona Diamondbacks (18-17) | Last week: 19 (+1)

19. Seattle Mariners (16-19) | Last week: 18 (-1)

20. Miami Marlins (15-19) | Last week: 17 (-3)

21. Texas Rangers (14-19) | Last week: 21

22. Pittsburgh Pirates (15-19) | Last week: 26 (+4)

23. Boston Red Sox (13-21) | Last week: 23

24. Oakland Athletics (15-22) | Last week: 25 (+1)

25. Chicago Cubs (13-20) | Last week: 24 (-1)

26. Baltimore Orioles (14-21) | Last week: 22 (-4)

27. Kansas City Royals (12-20) | Last week: 27

28. Detroit Tigers (12-23) | Last week: 29 (+1)

29. Washington Nationals (12-24) | Last week: 28 (-1)

30. Cincinnati Reds (9-26) | Last week: 30
