2018 NFL Best Survivor Pool Picks: Week 7

All but one lock pick from last week (Carolina @ Washington) would’ve been good to move on in your NFL survivor pool, so let’s try to keep it going for Week 7.

1. Los Angeles Rams (@ San Francisco)

While the Niners have been battling each week, the Rams remain big favorites in San Francisco this Sunday. LA’s defense hasn’t been great in recent weeks, so it might be time for the group to step up with a dominant performance against a division rival. Cooper Kupp is a big loss for the Rams offense, but Jared Goff, Todd Gurley, and company should remain an elite unit with him out. It’s difficult to envision a Niners upset, making the Rams the lock of the week.

2. New England Patriots (@ Chicago)

The Patriots are rolling offensively, and it’s unlikely even Chicago’s great defense can slow them down. Khalil Mack might be at less than 100%, and Bill Belichick might throw a lot at inexperienced second-year quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. Week 7 looks like a good week to pick the Pats.

3. Atlanta Falcons (vs. Giants)

After getting back on track at home against the Buccaneers, the Falcons will look to keep it going this Monday night in a matchup with the Giants. Calvin Ridley and Mohamed Sanu are hobbled for Atlanta, but Matt Ryan has more than enough weapons to slice through New York’s defense. The Giants appear to still have some serious issues as a team, so don’t count on them getting back on track even against a susceptible defense.

4. Minnesota Vikings (@ Jets)

Kirk Cousins basically said “no thanks” to the Jets in free agency, which could lead to some hesitancy to pick Minnesota as the lock if the opposing defense comes out with an edge. But with an upcoming slate against the Saints, Lions, Bears, Packers, and Patriots, there might not be a better opportunity to pick the Vikings in your survivor pool.

5. Indianapolis Colts (vs. Buffalo)

It’s difficult to pick against a Bills team that finds a way to win games under Sean McDermott versus a 1-5 Colts team, but Indianapolis has been playing very hard and should get a win soon. This lock comes down to having Andrew Luck at quarterback compared to Derek Anderson just recently arriving with the team he’s leading on Sunday.

6. Kansas City Chiefs (vs. Cincinnati)

The Bengals are a solid team that will make it a close primetime game, but the Chiefs look so good that they’re one of those teams it’s hard to see losing twice in a row. Kansas City is a fine survivor pool pick if you haven’t used them yet this season.

7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (vs. Cleveland)

You can also go with the Browns here, as this could be a breakout game for Baker Mayfield and Cleveland’s offense. However, the Bucs are playing at home, and this looks like one of the better times to pick them if you want to save the top teams like Los Angeles and New England for another week. I recommend picking a different game, though.

8. Broncos/Cardinals

If you’re still not sure which team to ride for Week 7, it might not be a bad idea to go with one of the teams from tonight’s matchup—flip a coin—if Thursday games are an option in your survival pool. You basically have a 50% chance of moving on, and this is probably the only time you’ll feel confident picking either of these teams this season.
