It took years for future Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner to get an opportunity in the NFL—and he became a superstar when he did. However, he easily could’ve never gotten a chance to be one of the world’s 32 starting quarterbacks at the highest level. This week’s YouTube video from Wolf Sports highlights a way under-the-radar player who could be the next Kurt Warner if he gets a shot.
Former Georgia QB Jake Fromm
That quarterback is former Georgia Bulldogs star Jake Fromm, who was drafted by the Bills in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Going well into Day 3 of the draft was a big surprise, as Fromm was considered a likely selection in Round 2 or 3 of the draft. He had another year of college eligibility following an excellent three-year run with Georgia, playing in and winning big games while showing poise and impressive quarterbacking ability, which made his draft fall even more of a head-scratcher.
Limited Opportunities
From there, Fromm didn’t have much of a chance—initially sitting behind bonafide superstar Josh Allen, and with his lone regular season start coming for a 2021 Giants team that was very bad on offense, even running two quarterback sneaks on second and third down instead of trying to move the ball while backed up near their own end zone.
2024 Preseason
The film shows that Fromm has taken advantage of preseason opportunities, though. We start with the 2024 preseason when he was a late arrival with the Lions and played outstanding versus the Steelers. His clear intelligence and feel for the position was evident, and he earned praise from Lions general manager Brad Holmes and head coach Dan Campbell.
Preseason with Washington
Previously, Fromm played for the Commanders and led a comeback win in one of the most entertaining preseason games of all-time—driving versus a Ravens defense that was going extremely hard while trying to sustain their NFL record preseason winning streak of 24 games. The young quarterback stood in there and made throws, ultimately setting up a game-winning field goal by Joey Slye in primetime.
Throughout that preseason, Fromm showcased his ability—from poise to accuracy to underrated arm strength and mobility.
Conclusion
It’s shocking that Fromm hasn’t at least landed a backup quarterback job—and we believe he’s shown enough both as a prospect and during his time in the NFL to be a top backup at the very least. With all the quarterback injuries around the league, Fromm could help a team. For whatever reason, it just hasn’t happened. Hopefully it does at some point.
Wolf Sports’ track record is unmatched at quarterback, which makes it even more frustrating to see Fromm as essentially the only guy we were way higher on than consensus—like Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts, Brock Purdy, and Bo Nix—to not get a shot.
