Plenty of shuffling makes up the final 2024 MLB power rankings for June.
1. Philadelphia Phillies (51-26) | Last week: 2 (+1)
The Phillies have had the most weeks in the No. 1 slot this season, and they return to the top after a strong week that included the return of Trea Turner. Philadelphia has the National League’s three leaders in ERA among starting pitchers (Ranger Suarez, Zach Wheeler, and Christopher Sanchez).
2. Baltimore Orioles (49-28) | Last week: 1 (-1)
Baltimore’s offense stayed hot early last week, but they lost a 14-11 Friday game to the Astros before mustering just two runs combined on Saturday and Sunday while getting swept. Still, they took the series versus the Yankees.
3. New York Yankees (52-28) | Last week: 3
Following the series loss to Baltimore, the Yankees also dropped their home series to the Braves. Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring) hit the Injured List, and a hot Mets team is next.
4. Los Angeles Dodgers (48-31) | Last week: 4
Shohei Ohtani has seven homers over the past seven games, including one in each game versus his former Angels squad. He and the Dodgers should keep it going against the White Sox.
5. Cleveland Guardians (49-26) | Last week: 5
Cleveland continues to look like a legitimate World Series contender, but a trip to Baltimore will be a great test. Steven Kwan homered in back-to-back games for the Guardians, and he’s hitting .390 in 49 games this year.
6. Atlanta Braves (43-32) | Last week: 8 (+2)
This is more like it for the Braves, who took a weekend series in the Bronx and are now 8-2 in their past ten games—and back within striking distance in the NL East (seven games back).
7. Milwaukee Brewers (45-33) | Last week: 6 (-1)
The Brewers were able to salvage the final game of a four-game series at San Diego yesterday. They return home, where they are 22-12, to host the Rangers and Cubs this week.
8. Seattle Mariners (45-35) | Last week: 7 (-1)
The struggles on the road for the Mariners persist after dropping a series at Miami. Seattle is 18-23 away from home in 2023.
9. Boston Red Sox (42-36) | Last week: 11 (+2)
Boston built on the momentum from the series win over the Yankees a couple of weekends ago, making it three straight series victories by taking care of the Jays and Reds last week.
10. Minnesota Twins (43-35) | Last week: 9 (-1)
It’s been a down campaign for Pablo Lopez to this point, but eight shutout innings with 14 strikeouts (tying the most of any player this season) yesterday will hopefully be the type of outing that gets him on track for a club looking to make the postseason.
11. Kansas City Royals (42-37) | Last week: 10 (-1)
12. St. Louis Cardinals (39-37) | Last week: 12
13. San Diego Padres (41-41) | Last week: 13
14. Houston Astros (38-40) | Last week: 25 (+11)
15. Arizona Diamondbacks (38-40) | Last week: 15
16. Washington Nationals (38-39) | Last week: 16
17. New York Mets (37-39) | Last week: 23 (+6)
18. Texas Rangers (37-40) | Last week: 20 (+2)
19. Tampa Bay Rays (38-40) | Last week: 24 (+5)
20. Pittsburgh Pirates (37-40) | Last week: 19 (-1)
