Strengths

Terrific precision in the quick-strike passing game. Great overall accuracy. Tough and instinctive. Very decisive and accurate on stick routes. Natural accuracy and touch on throws up and over near the sideline. Excellent accuracy on in-breaking routes between the numbers. Works through full-field progressions all the way to the checkdown. Not an overpowering arm but plenty of zip in the short-to-intermediate range. Can rip in-stride strikes on deeper throws between the numbers. Accurate with ideal velocity on comebacks. Knows when to take heat off for underneath passes. Pulls receivers back to him when running towards traffic. Will patiently wait for a target to get through coverage into an open window. Limited interceptions despite a willingness to give his guys a chance to make plays. Feathery touch on fades. Willing to let things develop and take a hit. Remains very poised in the pocket with defenders around him. Good mobility to escape and maneuver behind the line of scrimmage. Able to feel and anticipate pressure. Efficient sliding up in the pocket with strong mechanics to keep two hands on the ball. Shows comfort stepping back into the pocket after drifting backwards. Will quickly reset his footwork in the pocket after looking to possibly escape. Evades defenders as a passer with reverse spins. Always keeps his eyes downfield on the move. Consistently squares his shoulders to make throws. Squares everything up to throw moving to his left. Plenty of experience in RPO game and accurate getting the ball out on perimeter screens. Able to alter his arm angle to find a lane on short throws. Impressive playmaking instincts and vision. Will use a quick shovel to get the ball out. NFL bloodlines as the son of Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders.

Weaknesses

Sometimes declines an open underneath target with rushers bearing down. Really needs to pull the trigger instead of absorbing sacks. Extends plays too long and will take a huge loss. Can be more aggressive trying a smaller window versus the blitz. Average overall throw power. Downfield accuracy outside the numbers is inconsistent and leaves the go ball short at times. Could be better attacking shorter second-level crossers when rolling out. Doesn’t seem to be a dynamic athlete in space and wonder if he can be more aggressive opening up as a runner. Will get loose with the ball as a runner and hold it with one hand while taking a sack.

Conclusion

Overall, Sanders is a smart, accurate, and tough quarterback with a polished game that fits best in a quick-strike passing attack. He needs to stop absorbing sacks, but based on his general instincts as a player, it seems to be a fixable issue that can be coached out of him.
