Strengths

Elite length for his size. Strong overall build. Excellent raw strength. Plays with outstanding overall effort and aggression. Churns his feet on the interior. Instinctive overall player. Very impressive burst. Good quickness off the ball and into the backfield. Heavy hands to shed with force/power. Can easily discard blockers when he gets his hands on them. Tremendous impact strength when he extends accurately. Shows flashes of extreme strength when he connects on the shoulders and extends. Will stand up offensive linemen when he gets leverage with two-handed extensions. Works to hold his ground and get through blockers. Overpowers smaller opponents when he gets his hands underneath them. Moves his feet to push versus double teams. Quick moving laterally and working down a gap at the snap. Has some initial dip off the ball. Great hustle to pursue ball-carriers. Smooth to suddenly throttle down. Active hands with relentlessness as a rusher. Can steer quickly to the ball after using a rip move. Excellent strength on pulldown moves as a rusher. Very good acceleration into the rush path when given space. Quick feet and reaction time to track quarterbacks. Reach allows him to close quicker on the quarterback. Intimidating with a head of steam. Brings versatility with snaps all along the interior and some on the edge.

Weaknesses

Needs to be more accurate and consistent extending to advantage of his length. Would like to see better overall control taking on blocks. Gets too high at times. Blockers often win with early impact if they connect first. Turns his back to the ball trying to free himself from blockers. Want to see him stay square and disengage to play the run more consistently. Will lose track of the ball when slanting. Has some overruns pursuing down the line of scrimmage. Would like for him to implement clubs and strikes more to the side of blockers.

Conclusion

Overall, Farmer is a very long interior defensive lineman who has natural strength and quickness to pair with effort. He profiles as an energetic role player for an NFL defense and is worth targeting in the third round.
