Strengths

Very fluid overall player. Excellent speed. Great overall release footwork. Very smooth on outside releases to stack cornerbacks. Eats up the cushion downfield and breaks out past cornerbacks to get behind them. Does a nice job tracking the ball over the shoulder. Soft hands. Uses head and body manipulation to sell inside or outside routes before breaking off in the opposite direction. Tremendous deceptiveness to set up cornerbacks on deeper out routes and corner routes. Very quick feet on short out cuts. Very quick to throttle down on stop routes. Terrific burst and awareness running routes through zone coverage over the middle. Often used on crossing routes and drags. Very good feel to settle between the cornerback and safety versus Cover-2 looks. Outstanding body control to get his feet down on the sideline and boundary. Experience out wide and in the slot. Used on tunnel screens and drag screens to get the ball in his hands with blockers out in front of him. Targeted on plenty of perimeter screens. Great vision and feel in the open field. Very slippery with the ball in his hands. Extremely instinctive and will get going immediately after the catch. Natural ability to make the first defender miss. Can slip one tackle on an underneath pass/screen and take it to the house. Impressive balance and strength to break weak tackle attempts. Will run through multiple arm tackles and pick up chunk yardage. Used on motion handoffs and reverses to get the ball in his hands. Hustled to follow his teammate on a long touchdown run versus Utah State (2024).

Weaknesses

Needs to be more consistently refined as a route runner. Lack of focus finishing routes will lead to missed opportunities and potentially worse when not on the same page as the quarterback. Needs more urgency away from the ball. Will run himself out of bounds on vertical routes. Doesn’t seem to catch low and away passes as smoothly. Rarely offers much as a blocker in terms of effectiveness or effort. Shows frustration about the ball not going his way at times.

NFL comparison

Emmanuel Sanders

Conclusion

Overall, Williams is a fluid, crafty wide receiver with natural deceptiveness running routes and an ability to do damage on every touch. He needs to polish his game, but he could provide an impact similar to Emmanuel Sanders for an NFL offense.
