Matches for Remaining 2025 Veteran NFL Free Agents

We’re in perhaps the quietest time of year for the NFL, but there are plenty of free agents not yet on teams for 2025. These are strong team fits for guys like Rasul Douglas and Amari Cooper.

CB Rasul Douglas: Rams

The Rams were reportedly in on bringing back All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey before the Steelers got him out of nowhere, but it makes sense for a team with Super Bowl aspirations to consider another long, playmaking defensive back. Rasul Douglas emerged as a star-caliber corner who can make game-changing plays with the Packers, and he continued playing at a high level with Buffalo for 1.5 seasons. With Buffalo making a bunch of other moves at the position this offseason, there’s an opening for another contender like LA to add Douglas.

CB Asante Samuel Jr.: Dolphins

2024 was basically a lost season for Asante Sameul Jr., who played in just four games due to injury. Samuel underwent neck surgery in April, which explains why it’s taken so long for a 25-year-old at a premium position to find a new squad. As mentioned, Miami just dealt Jalen Ramsey—and cornerback currently looks like a big weakness. There’s been some puzzling roster construction for the Dolphins, but Samuel played well when healthy in his first three NFL seasons. The Florida State product can return to the state and compete for a key role on defense.

EDGE Von Miller: Commanders

The Commanders have been aggressive in adding veterans this offseason, including wide receiver Deebo Samuel, left tackle Laremy Tunsil, defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw, and cornerback Jonathan Jones. Super accomplished pass rusher Von Miller fits that mold, and he can mix in off the edge and try to get home in critical situations for a Washington club expecting to play in big games this year.

WR Amari Cooper: Raiders

Amari Cooper played his first three-plus NFL seasons with the Raiders before getting traded to the Cowboys. A return makes sense given the current state of the Raiders—particularly on a one-year deal as rookies Jack Bech and Dont’e Thornton Jr. get acclimated to the next level. Cooper brings a good veteran presence, and—as was the case with Buffalo last season—he can work in and out of the game while rotating with Bech, Thornton Jr., and Tre Tucker opposite Jakobi Meyers. Additionally, Cooper feels like a natural fit with new quarterback Geno Smith.

CB Stephon Gilmore: Cowboys

Stephon Gilmore played well for the Cowboys in 2023 and took a visit with the team earlier this offseason. There’s familiarity and comfort there, and star cornerback Trevon Diggs and third-round rookie corner Shavon Revel Jr. are both coming off a torn ACLs. Gilmore to the Cowboys is an easy match, and I’d be somewhat surprised if he lands elsewhere.

EDGE Jadeveon Clowney: Lions

We know how much injuries became a serious issue for the Lions last season, and—while there’s no question general manager Brad Holmes and head coach Dan Campbell know what they’re doing—there’s room to add to the defensive front. An acquisition like this might not come until during the season if necessary, but Jadeveon Clowney can set the edge in the run game at the very least. He had 5.5 sacks for Carolina last season and is just a couple of seasons removed from 9.5 sacks with a much better Ravens squad.

WR Keenan Allen: Cardinals

Keenan Allen has said he doesn’t want to play for Pittsburgh, seemingly preferring another location. Arizona could be a fit, with the Pro Bowler as someone to work in the receiving mix behind second-year pro Marvin Harrison Jr. Allen has plenty of experience and caught seven touchdowns with the Bears last season as a key red-zone target for Caleb Williams. The veteran could make things easier on Kyler Murray in scoring territory, taking pressure off MHJ and Trey McBride.

WR Gabe Davis: Steelers

As for a receiver that might want to play for the Steelers, Gabe Davis already visited the team—and he reportedly “really enjoyed his visit there.” Closer to training camp might be the time for Davis to join (there’s no rush now with OTAs in the books). The size and physicality of Davis is the type of thing Mike Tomlin has made it clear he wanted to add this offseason. DK Metcalf and Davis would provide two big targets for still-accurate quarterback Aaron Rodgers, and the duo would help spring things in the run game with their effort there.
