Jameson Williams Is Arguably the Best Pick in 2025 Fantasy Football Drafts

With so much information out there and so many NFL fans tuned into the game, it can be difficult fo find traditional “sleepers” in fantasy football today. However, thanks in part to so much information out there (much of it not credible), you can find values in your fantasy draft. For example, for just about every year over the past several years, the “experts” were far too low on superstar running back Derrick Henry, who finished as the:

2019: RB3

2020: RB2

2021: RB16 (he missed half the season but was putting up an insane 23.0 points per game, second only to Josh Allen among all players)

2022: RB4

2023: RB8

2024: RB3

If you drafted King Henry, you were thrilled (he was so good in 2021 before the injury that you were probably at least racking up wins to be in a good spot to make the fantasy playoffs). And you could have drafted him in the late first or early second in many cases. You can again this year, by the way.

Many of the mainstream sites and experts had Henry as more of a Round 2 pick throughout those years, and everyone followed suit despite the ranking not making much sense if you think about it. This is just to say that groupthink can lead to major values in fantasy football drafts.

For some reason, it appears that the fantasy football world doesn’t like Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams. In Wolf Sports’ recent YouTube video, I dove into why Jamo is my favorite pick in 2025 fantasy football drafts. While I don’t feel as confident about it as I did for Henry all those years (we’re talking about a mid-round selection instead of someone who should have been an easy mid-first-round pick at the worst—but no one really had the guts to rank him there and he could be had in Round 2), Williams is another player where most people are seemingly undervaluing the talent.

I’ll share some of what coaches and teammates are saying this year about Jamo:

New offensive coordinator John Morton:

It’s going to be a breakout year for him. So I can’t wait, I just can’t wait, man.

Head coach Dan Campbell:

He’s had a good spring, and it’s another one, I don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves in OTAs, but there’s so much versatility with him. There’s so many things that we can do just with his routes on the outside. I mean, we can do things inside, but just with his speed, and he’s gotten so much stronger. His ability to stop. Put his foot in the ground. Man, when you can run like he can run and now you’re beginning to (get) where you can stop on a dime, you talk about a hard cover.

So, the sky’s the limit for him. He’s exactly where we want him to be right now at this point. He’s been here, he’s grinding, he’s getting better. [WRs coach] Scottie Montgomery grinding him. It’s awesome. But we expect him to have a huge season. We really do, man. He’s going to be one of these guys that we’re going to lean on this year and is really going to be big for us. All he’s got to do is just keep working like he’s working, and we’ll be good.

Quarterback Jared Goff says he and Williams have more chemistry off the field (which is always a plus). Williams himself says that Morton as the new OC is letting him run more routes. And then you have wide receiver Tim Patrick saying that Jamo is running a lot of short routes and is “impossible to stop,” and star defensive back Brian Branch says to “get your popcorn ready for Jamo.”

I understand that Dan Campbell and company were saying similar things last season, but Williams lived up to the hype in 2024. He had his first 1,000-yard season and became someone the Lions can lean on from a real-life perspective. I believe he’s ready to take another step this year.

Jameson Williams is on the receiving end of the most explosive play in the league that you don’t hear about. It’s a deep crossing route with a clearout route on the opposite side of the field—which led to touchdowns of 70 and 64 yards last season.

You can see on the first one how Amon-Ra St. Brown runs full speed, clearing things out for Jamo screaming across the middle.

Even for a star defender like Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon, that’s basically impossible to stop in the open field when you have a quarterback like Jared Goff hitting a player with Jamo’s speed in stride.

Against the Jaguars, there was a bit of a variation on the play, with Sam LaPorta clearing things out from the tight end position this time.

And the same thing occurred—the deep zone defender basically had no chance of stopping Jamo.

Again, it helps having a quarterback as accurate as Goff putting it on Jamo in stride, which you can see in this great endzone angle.

Connecting for two super long touchdowns on a particular play in one season is impressive, and we might see that even more this season—plus more usage all over the field.

Williams is said to be having an incredible training camp, and the glimpses we’ve seen showcase the route running and strong hands that make him more than just a deep threat. There’s a reason the Lions traded way up to get Jamo in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Jamo can do plenty of damage with the ball in his hands, get open against one-on-one coverage on all three levels, and showed tremendous catch focus and ability to make plays in traffic in Year 3. In Year 4, there’s room for statistical growth for someone who had just 91 targets in 2024.

Last season, Williams finished as the WR19. But now I’m seeing his average draft position (ADP) is near 80 on ESPN, and I saw before the Hall of Fame Game some rankings with Jamo as the WR31. And now suddenly I’m seeing jokes on X about Jamo being a reliable fantasy factor. He just was last season!

What’s not to love about Jameson Williams as a pick in around the seventh round of 2025 fantasy football drafts? He’s talented. He plays on an elite team in an offense that’s determined and might put up crooked numbers even with Ben Johnson now in Chicago. And he’s already produced as a fantasy asset.

This isn’t a lock like Derrick Henry early in drafts, but Jameson Williams is a player to take a shot on every time. Check out the full video on YouTube for more on Jamo as a top value in 2025 fantasy football drafts.
