Oregon is rising after a dominant performance and Florida State makes the top 10 in our updated college football power rankings.
1. Ohio State Buckeyes (2-0) | Last week: 1
After a low-scoring win over Texas in the opener, Ohio State did what you would have expected with a 70-0 win over Grambling State—whose head coach said “we understand what we’re getting into” before the game. Julian Sayin did have an interception in the win, but the ball didn’t touch the ground as he went 18-of-19 passing for 304 yards and four touchdowns.
2. Penn State Nittany Lions (2-0) | Last week: 2
Penn State started slow last week versus FIU as they only led 10-0 at halftime, but star runner Kaytron Allen led the way on offense with 16 carries for 144 yards and a touchdown. The Nittany Lions should take care of business versus Villanova on Saturday before a bye to prepare for a huge showdown against Oregon on September 27.
3. Georgia Bulldogs (2-0) | Last week: 3
A gauntlet SEC schedule begins for Georgia this week, and they’ll hope to make things difficult on transfer quarterback Joey Aguilar in a matchup against No. 15 Tennessee this weekend. Sophomore running back Nate Frazier should be featured after rushing 14 times for 69 yards and two touchdowns last week.
4. Oregon Ducks (2-0) | Last week: 6 (+2)
The Ducks blowing out Oklahoma State by 66 points might be a sign that this is Dan Lanning’s most loaded team yet. Quarterback play was the possible question mark, but former five-star recruit Dante Moore has more than lived up to the billing by completing 77.3% of his passes for 479 yards and a 6:0 touchdown-interception ratio through two games.
5. Texas Longhorns (1-1) | Last week: 4 (-1)
Arch Manning bounced back from a shaky opener in the loss to Ohio State by totaling over 300 yards and five touchdowns to beat San Jose State—but there were still missed opportunities (Manning himself pointed out “sloppy” play) with Texas going two-for-12 on third down. Fortunately for the Longhorns, they’ll get a couple of more tune-up games versus UTEP and Sam Houston before SEC play begins for them.
6. LSU Tigers (2-0) | Last week: 5 (-1)
LSU might have had a bit of a letdown following the win over Clemson by struggling with Louisiana Tech last week, and quarterback Garrett Nussmeier hasn’t yet put up big passing numbers. The Tigers need to be wary of a matchup versus a Florida team coming off a loss.
7. Miami Hurricanes (2-0) | Last week: 7
South Florida—now ranked No. 18 in the AP Poll—is the team that just upset the Gators, and Miami needs to make sure they don’t play spoiler two weeks in a row. Including the two wins already in the books, Miami has a unique advantage of hitting the road just once (to begin October versus Florida State) until November.
8. South Carolina Gamecocks (2-0) | Last week: 9 (+1)
The offense for South Carolina hasn’t played up to expectations thus far in 2025, but star quarterback LaNorris Sellers has taken care of the ball—and the offensive line will hopefully improve as the season progresses. Vanderbilt is 2-0 with 44+ points in both wins, so they won’t be an easy opponent on Saturday night.
9. Texas A&M Aggies (2-0) | Last week: 10 (+1)
Texas A&M escaped an injury scare with quarterback Marcel Reed being all good after leaving early last week—and they’ll need him at his best for primetime clash against Notre Dame this weekend. The game comes on the road and the Fighting Irish already have a loss, but A&M being a touchdown underdog is a bit surprising.
10. Florida State Seminoles (2-0) | Last week: NR
As to be expected, Florida State made extremely quick work of East Texas A&M last weekend—going up 49-0 at halftime and winning 77-3. Still, it was a good sign to see the focus was still there for the Seminoles after taking down Alabama, and Tommy Castellanos has shown he can hit on the big plays in Gus Malzahn’s offense.
