2025 College Football Power Rankings: Week 9

Two more teams were knocked off the ranks of the unbeaten as the 2025 college football power rankings are updated with one more weekend left in October.

1. Ohio State Buckeyes (7-0) | Last week: 1

With somewhat surprising teams (considering preseason expectations) such as Indiana and Texas A&M rising and other “contenders” falling, Ohio State has almost flown under the radar as the defending national champions. Last week, quarterback Julian Sayin had the best game of his young career by going 36-of-42 for 393 yards and four touchdowns—including a 6/111/2 line for star wideout Carnell Tate.

2. Indiana Hoosiers (7-0) | Last week: 2

The Hoosiers also had their quarterback go off last week, as Fernando Mendoza completed 24-of-28 passes for 332 yards and four touchdowns in a 38-13 win over Michigan State. This weekend versus a resurgent UCLA team that has won three games in a row should be fun, and they also happened to beat the Spartans by the same 38-13 margin this month.

3. Texas A&M Aggies (7-0) | Last week: 4 (+1)

The offensive balance for the Aggies was on full display in their 45-42 win over Arkansas—with Marcel Reed hitting nine different receivers and seven players recording a carry. Next up in a major opportunity versus No. 20 LSU in Death Valley on Saturday night, but facing a two-loss team that arguably has their season on the line won’t be easy.

4. Alabama Crimson Tide (6-1) | Last week: 6 (+2)

Alabama is now more than halfway through the midseason gauntlet with South Carolina, LSU, and Oklahoma still to come—and they’ve been a different team since a disappointing loss to Florida State in the opener. In the 37-20 win over Tennessee (then ranked No. 11), the Tide were boosted by 3.0 sacks for Yhonzae Pierre.

5. Georgia Bulldogs (6-1) | Last week: 7 (+2)

Georgia appeared on the verge of their second home loss in three games (after their 33-game home winning streak was snapped) when they fell behind Ole Miss, 35-26, at the end of the third quarter—but the defense was suffocating in the final frame and Gunner Stockton led the way with five total touchdowns.

6. Ole Miss (6-1) | Last week: 5 (-1)

Although they lost last week, Ole Miss showed enough to only drop a spot in the rankings, as they led by nine points in the fourth quarter and had to be encouraged by how quarterback Trinidad Chambliss (three total touchdowns) looked in a tough road environment. The Rebels now head to Norman for a hugely important matchup versus No. 13 Oklahoma.

7. Oregon Ducks (6-1) | Last week: 9 (+2)

The Ducks were only favored by 17.5 points last week versus Rutgers, but it sure felt like a blowout could be coming after the loss to Indiana—and that’s exactly what happened with a 56-10 victory. Oregon will now host Wisconsin (who was just shutout by the Buckeyes) before a bye week.

8. Vanderbilt Commodores (6-1) | Last week: NR

The SEC is loaded with top teams (Oklahoma and Missouri don’t make the top 10 but also have just one loss)—and Vanderbilt is fresh off a big win over LSU for their best start in 75 years. This week, the Commodores will be seeking some revenge versus Mizzou after a double-overtime loss last year.

9. Louisville Cardinals (5-1) | Last week: NR

Louisville isn’t getting a ton of respect from the AP voters (now ranked No. 19), but they upset Miami last Friday night, and their only loss this year came in overtime to No. 16 Virginia. It’s worth noting that head coach Jeff Brohm is now 4-0 in his career versus top-five teams in the regular season.

10. Miami Hurricanes (5-1) | Last week: 3 (-7)

Carson Beck throwing four interceptions and the Hurricanes still narrowly losing a 24-21 game to Louisville speaks to their talent—but Miami didn’t run enough as Mark Fletcher Jr. had just eight carries. Next up is a bounce-back spot versus a Stanford team that is 0-4 on the road.
