Strengths
Excellent speed. Great agility and acceleration. Very fluid overall movement skills. Top-tier athleticism. Very intelligent player. Tremendous sideline range as a deep safety. Fast and smooth retreating in the backpedal and side shuffle. Very fluid opening up to run with vertical routes in deep coverage. Terrific ball skills and instincts. Will get into the passing lane and make a play on the ball. Outstanding leaping ability. Quick feet with great overall skillset in man coverage. Easily runs with tight ends on crossing runs. Experience defending wide receivers in the slot. Excellent burst to close space covering out routes from the slot. Communicates and calls things out before the snap. Extremely accurate striking at the thigs to wrap up after the catch. Tremendous ability to close as a tackler from centerfield. Will fly downhill to tackle in the backfield on outside runs. Extremely effective darting through traffic towards the ball. Great impact as a hitter in space. Wraps up effectively in running pursuit. Strong and aggressive taking on blocks. Will extend to engage and shed blockers in space. Fluid getting around blockers into the backfield. Will dip past blockers in downhill pursuit. Stays square and in position to make tackles filtering up in run support. Physical filling versus the run and tackling on the second level. Extremely aggressive getting in on tackles. Very effective tackling in the box. Fast into the backfield as a run blitzer. Always running towards the ball. Outstanding speed and quickness as a blitzer off the edge.
Weaknesses
Eyes can be more consistently disciplined and focused in coverage. Too aggressive running to a side in deep coverage rather than reading it out. Will have his eyes in the backfield and be a step late reading to cover downfield routes. Sometimes attacks based on backfield run action and doesn’t locate the ball. Aggressiveness causes him to take shallow angles in pursuit and will end up trailing for a tackle. Can be susceptible to juke moves in aggressive pursuit. Sometimes struggles to square up ball-carriers when they use shake and will miss with a low tackle attempt. Overpowered when blockers latch on cleanly. Trucked by Indiana running back Roman Hemby at the goal line in the first matchup (2025). Allowed Indiana wide receiver Elijah Sarratt to run by him in man coverage at the goal line in the College Football Playoff loss (2025).

Conclusion
Overall, Thieneman is an athletic, all-around safety who can make plays in centerfield and come up to defend the run at a high level. The key will be coaching him up to keep his aggression and instincts while reigning in his play just a bit to clean up the weaknesses.
