Strengths

Monster size. Very long arms and massive hands. Tremendous athleticism at his size. Very active hands off the ball. Effective shedding the initial block as a run defender. Powerful engaging and pushing back blockers off the ball. Very strong holding his position while extending to disengage and tackle at the line of scrimmage. Great foot quickness and overall agility at his size. Slides through blockers into the backfield. Gets around blockers into the backfield and forces ball-carriers to change their path. Very powerful and quick hands striking opponents off the ball. Strikes blockers from the side to prevent them from squaring him up. Will engage with two hands and control blockers towards the edge defending outside runs. Effective winning inside as a three-technique and tackling in the hole from the side on inside runs. Shows passion helping to make a stop. Mostly used as a three-technique but has the size and power to play nose tackle. Generates push on the bull rush. Can throw opponents back when he gets his hands on them and has leverage as a rusher. Has shown a controlled bull rush into a rip move. Impressive fluidity to slide between blockers as a rusher. Splits blockers off the ball as a rusher. Very effective rip move in general. Shows shake into the rush. Will use a spin move inside to the pocket after rushing upfield. Gives consistent and continued effort as a rusher. Has rushed from a two-point stance shaded towards the edge. Engulfing as a finisher when he closes in range of the quarterback. Quick hands to deflect passes at the line of scrimmage. Will hustle towards the sideline on throws to the perimeter. Has experience with short coverage drops.

Weaknesses

Very inconsistent timing off the ball and will often be clearly late. Gets upright and plodding too much. Will shed at the snap but not pair it with his feet to get in position for a stop. Quicker ball-carriers can evade him in the hole after he defeats a block off the ball. Average play recognition. Needs to react better to ball-carriers when taking on a block and getting push. Has too many close misses in the backfield. Could be quicker and more effective disengaging in the opposite direction. Can get walled off and be out of control versus double teams. Stopped by down blocks too much. Will get too high and fail to create leverage in short-yardage situations. Inconsistent fully unleashing his power as a rusher. Could have more steerability tracking the quarterback when he wins early. Suffered a broken foot at the Combine and is recovering from surgery.

Conclusion

Overall, Banks is a big, athletic, and talented defensive lineman who flashes major ability but needs to put it all together. As he works to become more consistent, his best fit is in an aggressive front with a focus on penetrating and attacking.
