It’s not common for a former No. 1 overall draft pick quarterback to become available in their twenties, but the Vikings were able to land one in Kyler Murray—while paying virtually nothing, with over $36 million owed to Murray by the Cardinals in 2026. Our latest YouTube video dives into why signing Murray was well worth it for Minnesota.

Murray’s natural ability
Murray won a Heisman Trophy winner at Oklahoma before he was the top pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, and his rare quickness—paired with the ability as a passer—is a big reason for that. Despite being undersized, Murray is able to run around and make plays, causing headaches for defenses.
Attacking outside the pocket
With Kevin O’Connell and the Vikings, look for Murray to get out in space on plenty of bootlegs and play-actions, allowing him to attack the defense with his arm to the short, intermediate, and deep parts of the field—in addition to being able to pick up chunk yardage with his legs. The dual threat is very comfortable on the move, and KOC is going to utilize that skill.
The Murray/Jefferson duo
With three 1,400+ yard seasons under his belt, it was a major surprise to see All-Pro wide receiver Justin Jefferson not hit the 1,000-yard mark until Week 18 of last season. Look for that to change in 2026. Murray’s ability to move around and find openings in the secondary combined with Jefferson’s relentlessness running routes should lead to a ton of big plays for the Vikings.
