We’re four months from the start of the 2026 NFL season. Throughout the summer, there’ll be a big debate over what to do at the top of fantasy football drafts. The latest YouTube video from Wolf Sports dives into the early top five, including why Lions superstar Jahmyr Gibbs gets the nod as the No. 1 pick.

Plenty of depth
While this video highlights the early top five, there are a bunch of players who didn’t make the cut. If you don’t end up with a high pick in your draft, you’ll probably still be able to feel great about the player or two you begin your squad with. That said, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Jonathan Taylor—two players who likely led your team to the 2025 fantasy playoffs if you had them—come in at the back of the top five.
Gibbs or Bijan (or Chase)?
It felt like from the moment last year ended, it was set up for a discussion between Falcons running back Bijan Robinson and Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs to be the top pick in 2026 fantasy football leagues. Both are supremely talented runners with the ability to lead the NFL in scrimmage yards, score a bunch of touchdowns, and potentially hit a 1,000/1,000 campaign. You can’t go wrong, but trusting the Lions more than the Falcons might give Gibbs the edge. Also, don’t forget about last season’s consensus No. 1 pick, Bengals star Ja’Marr Chase.
The schedule
Keep in mind that the 2026 NFL schedule isn’t out yet. Would that potentially change how you stack up your big board in fantasy drafts? For example, does a lighter or tougher playoff schedule (on paper, for now) impact which direction you go? The bottom line is we have many weeks to go until most drafts take place, so look for this debate to continue until September.
