The holidays are over, so a lot of you are probably looking for something to do now that your hectic schedule has calmed down a bit. These are the top five shows coming to network television in January, along with ten of the best movies coming to Netflix during the month—including some absolute classics.
5. 9-1-1 (FOX)
FOX’s new drama series 9-1-1 has been advertised a lot, and the network has an excellent team and cast led by Connie Britton, Angela Bassett, and Peter Krause.
4. Waco (Paramount Network)
I know I looked at Paramount Network and wondered where this mysterious channel was located. It’s actually Spike TV, which is being re-branded starting on January 18. And Waco is its first big series, as it deals with the true story of a standoff between religious leader David Koresh and the federal authorities. The cast including Taylor Kitsch, Melissa Benoist, and Michael Sannon is superb.
3. The X-Files (FOX)
This is the only established show on the list, and it shouldn’t be watched without watching the first ten seasons first.
2. The Alienist (TNT)
Starring Daniel Brühl, Luke Evans, and Dakota Fanning, TNT might have a hit with The Alienist. The new show based on the 1994 novel by Caleb Carr is set right before the 20th Century, which is an area that typically isn’t covered by television and cinema.
1. The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story (FX)
Please, for the love of God, Disney: Do not touch American Crime Story. It would be utterly shocking if season two, which focuses on the assassination of Gianni Versace, wasn’t top-notch. Judging by the trailers and preview, it will be. And if you haven’t watched season one (The People v. O.J. Simpson), it’s great.
