20-year Olympic sponsor Samsung Electronics unveiled the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Games Limited Edition Galaxy Note 8 device. There will be 4,000 of them, and they will be given to “all Olympians as well as the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic family, including IOC and POCOG staff allowing them to lean on Samsung mobile technology to enhance their experiences and connect more conveniently.”
Samsung goes on to explain the phone in the statement:
The PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Games Limited Edition will include the bold new features of the Galaxy Note8, such as the innovative bezel-less 6.3-inch Infinity Display that fits comfortably in one hand, enhanced S Pen for efficient productivity, and Samsung’s best-in-class Dual Camera. Exclusively for the Games, the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Games Limited Edition will showcase a shiny white back glass to celebrate the winter theme, and gold Olympic rings – inspired by the Olympic Torch – an expression of the Olympic Movement with the union of five continents, and unity worldwide.
Samsung has not offered phones in white since 2015, so this special edition phone with a “winter theme” is the first Note 8 to be in white—and it looks sweet. It also comes in a special box with the Olympic logo, which is also on the back of the phone, and Samsung says it comes with apps that will be useful during the games. Basically, Samsung wants people to use the phones throughout the entire Olympic Games, which means the device will be seen by millions of people both live and on television. It’s really a brilliant move by the company.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy S9 is set to be announced next month, with the Galaxy Note 9 likely to come later this year.
