We are two months away from the release of Madden 20, but the blog dropped by EA this week actually covers Madden Overdrive (or Madden Mobile), which is the preference for non-console gamers that need their football fix. Unfortunately, there isn’t much detail about new features in the blog, as it basically discusses “Season Score”—the achievement progression system that gives you a head start for next season.
What Is Season Score?
As defined by the blog, Season Score is “the program [consisting] of in-game achievements that track a player’s progress in various areas of the current season, and outputs a score out of 100 percent.” As you could have guessed, the higher the score, the more rewards you will have for next season of Madden Overdrive. (If you didn’t know, Madden Mobile works in “seasons” that come through updates rather than a new game being released every year; I think that’s something the main Madden series might as well think about doing considering it’s basically a yearly roster update with no real changes to gameplay.)
Gamers will also earn rewards for the current season by participating in the Season Score program, which will be “completely transparent in terms of the rewards that players are working towards.” Also, the Legacy experience will have a “robust Legacy hub” next season to offer more ways to use players and earn rewards.
How Does It Work?
When players log in to Madden Overdrive, they will see this screen…
… and, as it says, you will earn Draft Points that will be used to purchase rewards next season.
Season Score Achievements
Draft Points will be earned through several categories: Team, Objectives, Coach Levels, Captain Levels, League vs. League Wins, Overdrive, and Achievements.
Giving You Your Reward
When the new season begins, gamers will be able to head to the Legacy store to spend the Draft Points earned over the next couple months. Here are some of the rewards, including Auction House Tax Reducers:
To close, EA says that “players will be able to earn a maximum of 500 Draft Points during Season Score.”
It’s unfortunate that we didn’t get more details about the main series (Madden 20) rather than an underwhelming blog for Madden Mobile, but next weekend’s EA Play should hopefully give us more information.
So nothing really changed for gameplay this year? Easy pass.
Very easy.
A shame there’s no good football game.
