‘The Batman’ Sequel Title And Release Date Announced

The word had been that Matt Reeves’ BatVerse would be safe under the surprising co-CEOs of newly launched DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran. We can now officially lock it in that Robert Pattison will be back as Batman in a sequel to The Batman, which was released last March. The Batman – Part II will release on October 3, 2025.

After Henry Cavill announced that he was back as Superman, only for the plug to be pulled by Gunn and Safran, it’s good to hear that we can indeed confirm that the promising Batman story and world led by Reeves and Pattinson will continue. The Batman did very well with both fans and critics, with Pattinson getting rave reviews for playing the Caped Crusader. Reeves seems to have an interesting vision on where he can take the character, and Pattinson has proven to be one of the greatest current actors.

It’s interesting that the Part II moniker has been given to The Batman sequel. While The Batman is an excellent movie, no one will confuse it with The Godfather; but it had the same runtime as The Godfather and is also getting the Part II treatment. Just a fun fact to note.

The fall release date is also noteworthy. The Batman was moved multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but October was one of the potential release dates—and the film takes place around Halloween and gives a fall type of vibe, so that might be the case again with Part II. We’ll see where Reeves takes things for the second movie of an expected trilogy. Some fans have been hoping for a winter and/or Christmas setting.

The BatVerse will be totally separate from the new DCU—which includes a Superman film (Superman: Legacy, written and likely directed by Gunn) and Batman and Robin film (The Brave and the Bold)—and will be termed “Elseworlds” (it will also include the upcoming Joker sequel Folie à Deux). You can read about the ten projects that will help launch the DCU here.

Ultimately, there will be two Batmen existing at the same time in major films. But it’s not dissimilar to comic books, which have different takes from a number of writers and artists.

The Batman – Part II hits theaters on October 3, 2025.
