Top Ten Tuesday: Best Movie Duos Ever

Because tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, it’s a good time to look at the best duos in movie history. Feel free to leave your favorite duo in the comments!

10. Tyler Durden and The Narrator – Fight Club

The ending of Fight Club makes things a little cloudy, but Brad Pitt (Durden) and Edward Norton (The Narrator) had great chemistry as the cult-like leaders of their club… which we aren’t going to talk about.

9. Vincent Vega and Jules Winnfield – Pulp Fiction

They don’t have a ton of screen time because the way Pulp Fiction is set up, but Vincent Vega and Jules Winnfield are both fascinating characters, particularly when they’re together.

8. Schmidt and Jenko – 21 Jump Street

The modern-day crime-comedy team of Schmidt and Jenko have been together for two movies, and they have yet to disappoint (in at overall mission, at least) as undercover cops at high school and college.

7. Dominic Toretto and Brian O’Connor – The Fast and the Furious

Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and Brian O’Connor (Paul Walker) were best friends for six movies before Walker’s tragic death in 2013, but the two created an inseparable bond—both on and off-screen—that concluded with a perfect send off for Walker and his character in Furious 7.

6. Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunn – Dumb and Dumber

“Just when I thought you couldn’t possibly be any dumber, you go and do something like this… and totally redeem yourself!”

5. Doc Brown and Marty McFly – Back to the Future

Despite Marty just being a kid and Doc being a white-haired, mad scientist, the two are able to successfully break the space-time continuum when Marty is sent back 30 years to the past. Even though it was accidental, things end up working out for them both.

4. Ricky Bobby and Cal Naughton Jr. – Talladega Nights

Talladega Nights is hilarious throughout, but the first half of the movie in particular is pure comedy gold because of Ricky and Cal’s relationship. “Shake and Bake!”

3. Woody and Buzz Lightyear – Toy Story

Woody and Buzz are the only animated/cartoon characters on this list, but they are as iconic as anyone. At first, Woody is jealous of Andy’s new toy, but the cowboy and spaceman eventually settle their differences and make a great team.

2. Roger Murtaugh and Martin Riggs – Lethal Weapon

Speaking of great teams, Murtaugh (Danny Glover) and Riggs (Mel Gibson) are just that. The two have very different lives, but the loose-cannon Riggs is able to learn some restraint, while the family-man Murtaugh loosens up some after a reluctant beginning.

1. Han Solo and Chewbacca – Star Wars

It’s really hard to choose anyone else for the top spot, as Han and Chewy are best friends and the finest smuggling team in the galaxy. Also, the viewer doesn’t even understand what Chewbacca says in his Wookiee language, but Han does, and that’s enough to provide laughs in the original trilogy.
