Josh Gordon | Free Agent WR

Josh Gordon (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 2.

This one is a surprise, as the Browns suddenly decided to rule out Gordon, Seth DeValve, and Christian Kirksey with still nearly 24 hours to go until kickoff tomorrow against New Orleans. Not having Gordon is a big loss for the Browns, and rookie Antonio Callaway will have a big role opposite Jarvis Landry. The Browns have a quick turnaround for their Week 3 game on Thursday night against the Jets, so consider Gordon 50/50 for that game. Perhaps the Browns just want their guys to be ready to go for that one instead of playing them tomorrow before the short week.

Jeremy Kerley | Free Agent WR

The Bills released Jeremy Kerley.

Kerley was a good veteran presence for the Bills, but they’re headed in another direction. The veteran receiver should be able to find a new team relatively soon.

Joe Mixon | Texans RB

Joe Mixon (knee) is expected to miss two-to-four weeks, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport says Mixon’s arthroscopic knee surgery has been successfully completed. The low-end two-week timeframe could potentially mean Mixon only misses one game, but it’s likely he misses at least two. Hopefully Mixon can get back to practice at 100% ahead of Week 5’s game against the Dolphins. Giovani Bernard should handle a lot of work in Cincinnati’s backfield until Mixon returns.

Amara Darboh | Broncos WR

Amara Darboh had his contact reinstated with the Seahawks, according to Field Yates.

He’s been reverted to IR, and as Yates says, it’s an odd situation. The second-year wideout was released and then signed by New England a couple weeks ago, but he was recently released and is once again a Seahawk. Darboh will look to return to 100% and then develop in Seattle. He’s off the fantasy radar.

Joe Mixon | Texans RB

Joe Mixon is expected to miss two weeks due to arthroscopic knee surgery, according to Adam Schefter.

When it was recently reported by NFL Network that Mixon was going to undergo a procedure, the recovery length was unknown, but this is probably a best-case scenario if Schefter is correct. The talented second-year back would immediately return as an RB1 if it’s just a two-week absence, but Giovani Bernard should have a chance to steal touches away for the rest of the season if he shows well against Carolina and Atlanta. Either way, this is probably a good buy-low opportunity for Mixon, who would get a great matchup in Week 5 against the Dolphins.

Erik Swoope | 49ers TE

The Colts signed Erik Swoope to the practice squad.

Swoope was just released yesterday, but the Colts quickly brought him back to the practice squad. He’ll develop there, and the Colts know they can count on him on game days if they promote him to the 53-man roster.

Joe Mixon | Texans RB

Joe Mixon might need arthroscopic surgery, according to NFL Network.

This is according to Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo, and it would be a major blow to the Bengals after a 2-0 start to the season. The report says Mixon is seeking a second opinion first. There was obvious discomfort throughout last night’s game against the Ravens, but Mixon battled through it and had a productive game—so maybe it’s something he can see playing through. Mixon had shown his superb ability as an all-around workhorse runner for the Bengals to open the season, rushing 38 times for 179 yards and a touchdown while adding six receptions for 57 yards—and he looked better than the numbers indicate through the two games against Indianapolis and Baltimore. If Mixon does indeed get arthroscopic surgery, it could knock him out for a number of weeks and potentially through the rest of the first half of the season. Giovani Bernard would likely be a 15-20 touch back if Mixon is out, so he’ll be one of the top pickups next week if he’s available in any leagues.
