Join now >Tyler Eifert’s status remains “up in the air” for the start of training camp.
We’ll see what happens, but Eifert (back) is not expected to practice when Bengals training camp begins on Thursday. Bengals director of player personnel Duke Tobin says that “hopefully Tyler Eifert can come back and be a factor for us” and that “we’ll see” if he can. It sounds like there could be no timetable on Eifert’s return, as backs can be tricky. Eifert will probably start camp on the PUP list.

John Harbaugh says Lamar Jackson is going to play “one way or another” this season.
Harbaugh said this to John Kryk of the Toronto Sun, reiterating what has been clear since the Ravens selected Jackson with the 32nd pick in this year’s draft. The “one way or another” might make some people believe Jackson has a chance to be the team’s starter, but Joe Flacco is obviously the very heavy favorite for the job. Still, Jackson will be on the field in some capacity this season because of his explosiveness; but it might not be enough to rely on him in fantasy lineups outside of extremely deep leagues.

Michael Campanaro passes his physical.
Campanaro is now able to practice for the Titans after he was previously on the NFI list. Campanaro is expected to have a role on special teams, but he’ll attempt to carve out a niche to contribute on offense.

The Patriots have waived wide receiver Cody Hollister, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.
Hollister was placed on the non-football injury list, and the team opted to waive the second-year receiver. Hollister spent last season on New England’s practice squad, and his twin brother Jacob is a tight end for the team. It’s possible he’s brought back at some point if he’s not claimed by another team off waivers.

The Rams and Todd Gurley are finalizing a four-year, $60 million contract extension, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The deal reportedly includes $45 million guaranteed. The guarantee is the most for a running back in NFL history, as is the $15 million per year, which nearly doubles Devonta Freeman’s contract from last season, which was the highest in the league. This deal now sets the market for other star running backs like David Johnson, Ezekiel Elliott, and Le’Veon Bell, who are all set for new contracts; however, in the case of Bell, he will have to wait until free agency and must play this season on the franchise tag. A deal for Johnson, who reported to Cardinals training camp yesterday despite wanting a new contract, that looks similar to this deal for Gurley could come together soon. Gurley’s extension just ensures he’ll remain the centerpiece of the Rams’ offense for the next handful of years, and he remains in the discussion for the top pick in 2018 fantasy drafts.

Ron Rivera believes Christian McCaffrey can reach 200 carries in 2018.
David Newton of ESPN.com says Rivera told him that “he wouldn’t be surprised if McCaffrey reached 200 carries” this season. Newton goes on to write that “the staff is confident McCaffrey can run between the tackles, as he did at Stanford.” There had recently been some talk of free-agent addition C.J. Anderson being the team’s lead runner this season, but we believe it’ll end up being McCaffrey. One, Carolina didn’t exactly jump at signing Anderson when the Broncos released him; and two, McCaffrey is a dynamic all-around running back the certainly can handle a heavy workload as a runner. Combined with his receiving totals, 200 carries would likely put McCaffrey up near 300 touches for the season. This situation is still one of the big ones to watch in training camp as we hope to get clarity on how the carries will be split in 2018.

Malcolm Mitchell’s knee procedure was minor.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport says the third-year receiver had a knee procedure, which was reported yesterday, that “was more aimed at hoping to accelerate healing.” It was also reported yesterday that Mitchell was on the trade block, and Rapoport says the Patriots are “poised” to move on from the injury-plagued receiver. It sounds like Mitchell could be done in New England one way or another, which would give more clarity to a crowded receiving group.
