Join now >Ravens tight end Crockett Gilmore is getting meniscus surgery tomorrow, according to Ian Rapoport.
Gilmore hurt his leg on the second day of training camp and it’s been unclear what the issue was. Like with Ravens running back Kenneth Dixon, they’ll know the extent of the injury after the surgery. He could be out several weeks, or he could be out for the season like Dixon. Baltimore signed former Giants tight end Larry Donnell earlier today.

The Cardinals are signing running back Chris Johnson, according to Adam Schefter.
Johnson was with the Cardinals the last two years, but suffered a groin injury last season that forced him to be placed on Injured Reserve. CJ2K is now 31, but he showed he still has some ability—particularly speed—when healthy. The team is re-signing him right before training camp starts, and he’ll provide good depth to the group and likely compete for the number two running back job behind David Johnson. Chris Johnson could emerge as the primary handcuff to the workhorse DJ, but he likely won’t provide great standalone fantasy value with DJ locked into 25+ touches per game.

Rams head coach Sean McVay said Tavon Austin is “fully healthy.”
Austin had offseason wrist surgery, but has been fully participating in training camp. McVay did say Austin is working on getting full range of motion in his wrist, but it’s great to hear the dynamic receiver is healthy. The 26-year-old Austin is expected to have a big role, similar to that of DeSean Jackson when McVay was the coordinator in Washington, so he has some upside late in fantasy drafts.

Packers running backs coach Ben Sirmans is “really excited” about Ty Montgomery.
Sirmans said Montgomery “did a really good job” last season during his switch to running back from wide receiver. He stopped short of placing expectations on Montgomery for this season, but he made it very clear he is “excited” for the third-year player entering his first season as a full-time running back. Montgomery certainly showed ability to be a real weapon for the Packers out of the backfield, and it looks like he’ll get a good amount of touches this season for them as he enters the season as the clear-cut starter. He’s currently going in the sixth round of fantasy drafts.

Markus Wheaton had an appendectomy this morning.
Head coach John Fox just said this at today’s media press conference. The timetable isn’t exactly known, but it should be anywhere from one week to four weeks. It’s unfortunate for someone that was looking to step up as the number one receiver. GM Ryan Pace said yesterday that Wheaton was really standing out so far too. Hopefully he has a quick recovery and can get back on the field to continue gaining chemistry to Mike Glennon.

Le’Veon Bell told Ike Taylor he wants to be paid as a top running back AND a No. 2 receiver.
Ike Taylor, who now works for NFL Network, was a long-time Steelers corner so he has connections with Bell. Being paid as a top running back and as a number two receiver would be—if we had to guess what Bell is thinking—around $15 million per year. The Steelers reportedly did not offer that much, and it sounds like Bell wasn’t really close to accepting their offer. Bell is an elite receiving back in addition to his great running ability, and he wants to be paid for both to get what he feels he’s worth. Pittsburgh could always franchise tag Bell again next season, but he could be headed elsewhere in 2018 if he hits free agency.

Charegers rookie receiver Mike Williams is not expected to practice during the preseason.
The team announced Williams met with the team doctors yesterday as planned and will continue to “rehab and strengthen his back” while expecting to miss all of training camp. The good news is the team thinks Williams will be able to rehab and receiver to hit the field this season. If they thought the injury was bad enough, presumably they would have had him undergo surgery and get ready for 2018. Alex Flanagan said on NFL Network that Williams was resting his back and is now moving on to rehab. Hopefully the rehab works out and we can see the seventh overall pick on the field this year. He’s questionable at best for Week 1, and probably doubtful.
