Join now >Jared Goff has "exceeded expectations" for the Rams' new coaching staff, according to Steve Wyche.
GM Les Snead said that Goff understands more than he did as a rookie, including "what NFL defenses want to do." Goff was not in a good situation last season and did not get much help. For some odd reason, much of the media has given up on Goff and declared him a bust already, despite only playing one season. He has a lot of arm talent and should be able to take a big step forward this season.

Le'Veon Bell is not expected to sign a long-term deal before Monday's deadline, according to Adam Schefter.
Schefter reports that there are "no deals close" for Bell, Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins, or Rams cornerback Trumaine Johnson. Bell is the most notable, as Johnson was already reportedly set to play another year on the franchise tag, while Cousins has been expected to do the same. The Steelers might not want to extend Bell to a long-term deal yet, given he has been suspended in the past. But he's one of the best players in the NFL and would have a lot of leverage next offseason if forced to play out 2017 on the franchsie tag. Something could still get done between Bell and the Steelers in this next 24-plus hours.

According to ProFootballTalk, the Patriots extened a May 9 tender to free agent running back LeGarrette Blount.
This is a very rare occurance. PFT lays out the details in the link below. It's a one-year tender worth $1.1 million. If Blount does not sign with a team by July 22, he can only sign a deal with New England for 2017. If Blount does sign with another team, it'll count towards possible compensatory picks for the Patriots. If Blount stays in New England, it's be in the most-crowded backfield in the NFL. This looks like another great move by the Patriots, who remain ahead of the curve.

Cody Latimer was involved in a club altercation.
TMZ obtained a video of Latimer arguing with bouncers before he was pepper sprayed. The video shows Latimer with his hand on a bouncer, which the bouncer did not like and kept removing; then, Latimer gave him a little face slap which escalated things. This is obviously not a good look for Latimer, and the former second-round pick is trying to remain on the Broncos' roster this season as he battles for a spot during training camp. TMZ reports that there will be no criminal investigation into the matter.

The Vikings are signing Michael Floyd to a one-year deal, according to Ian Rapoport.
It was reported last week that Minnesota was talking to Floyd. After the wheels fell off and he was released by the Cardinals during last season for an extreme DUI, Floyd was a member of the Patriots' Super Bowl team, although inactive for the big game. Now, he'll add to a good Vikings receiving corps that includes Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen, and Laquon Treadwell. Floyd will likely compete with Treadwell for a starting job on the team, but they should all get considerable playing time. The main concern for the Vikings is giving Sam Bradford time to hit these receivers. Floyd has some upside as a former 1,000-yard receiver that averages 15.4 yards per catch in his career. The deal can be worth up to $6 million, according to Rapoport, but the base salary is about $1.5 million. Floyd is from Minnesota, so this is a homecoming for him.

Johnny Manziel still hopes to play in the NFL again.
Manziel was at the National Fantasy Football Convention and said he's "had a couple conversations" with teams about playing again, according to Joe Machota of the Dallas News; one of those conversations could have been with New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton, whom he talked to during the week of the Super Bowl. Manziel said "I know the situation that I put myself in. I know the year I took off and obviously the mistakes I made," adding that he's "really hopeful" and will be ready if given another opportunity. The former Heisman winner realizing and taking responsibility for his mistakes is a great step in the right direction. Manziel has a lot of ability—as he showed in his limited NFL action with the Browns—but it's unclear whether he'll get another chance in the league.

Carson Palmer is happy with Andre Ellington’s transition to wide receiver.
Back in 2013 when Ellington was a rookie, Palmer said if Ellington dedicated to being a receiver, that he could be a number two receiver for teams. Now that Ellington has switched over to receiver, he’s making progress. Palmer also noted that Ellington can run good routes, but then when he gets the ball in his hands “he’s a running back.” The Cardinals have a crowded receiving group, which may prevent Ellington from being a good fantasy option in 2017, but he should be a key contributor for the team.
