Fantasy News

Austin Hooper | Patriots TE

The Browns are releasing Austin Hooper, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

Hooper is expendable after the team placed the franchise tag on David Njoku, and there is now a very good chance they extend the former first-round pick with a long-term deal. Designating Hooper as a post-June 1 release will save the team nearly $10 million in cap space, so it’s possible this is a precursor to acquiring Deshaun Watson—especially since they could have done this before free agency in order to give Hooper a market starting on Monday. Either way, this is great news for the outlook for Njoku as a potential TE1 option in 2022, and Harrison Bryant will be the clear No. 2 tight end for the Browns. As for Hooper, he shouldn’t have trouble finding a new home as a likely starter somewhere else.

Breshad Perriman | Free Agent WR

Breshad Perriman is re-signing with the Buccaneers.

Perriman joined the Bucs during last season, and he’s back for another year along with Tom Brady remaining after his unretirement. Remember, Perriman caught the game-winning touchdown in Tampa Bay’s overtime win over Buffalo last season, and we’ll see if he can work his way into a bigger and more consistent role with a full offseason in the offense.

D'Onta Foreman | Free Agent RB

The Panthers are signing D’Onta Foreman, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Foreman—who played very well in place of Derrick Henry last season—will get a chance to compete with Chuba Hubbard for carries behind Christian McCaffrey. Also, it’s notable that Foreman began his career in Houston with Deshaun Watson as Carolina continues to be in the trade market for the quarterback. Foreman will be a decent handcuff from a fantasy perspective.

Tyrod Taylor | Jets QB

The Giants are signing Tyrod Taylor.

The Giants were reportedly looking to bring in a mobile veteran quarterback, and Taylor is a very strong option with starting experience in the league. Taylor was in Buffalo with new Giants general manger Joe Schoen in 2017, so there’s somewhat of a relationship or at least familiarity there. Taylor will back up Daniel Jones this season.

Pharaoh Brown | Dolphins TE

The Texans are re-signing Pharaoh Brown, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Houston has been bringing back a few of their own players from last season, and Brown’s deal is for one year and up to $4 million. We would expect second-year tight end Brevin Jordan to be the top receiving option at the position for the Texans in 2022.
