Team of the Week
QB: Jalen Hurts, PHI
Hurts has heated up since the bye week, and he finally had a full-blown breakout performance with 35.14 fantasy points in a complete victory for the Eagles. Overall, Hurts completed 16-of-20 passes for 236 yards and a touchdown while also adding 37 yards and three scores on the ground to finish as the clear QB1 for Week 8.
RB: James Cook, BUF
Wet conditions in Seattle made Cook even more difficult to tackle—as he consistently slipped defenders while turning 20 touches into 133 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-10 win. Cook is now quietly up to eight total touchdowns in seven games this season, and next up is a matchup versus a Miami defense he stung for three scores earlier this season.
RB: Josh Jacobs, GB
Jacobs has been extremely steady to begin his Green Bay tenure, and an injury to Jordan Love (groin) led to him being leaned on like we saw in Week 2 when he handled 32 carries—rushing 25 times for 127 yards and two touchdowns in a close win over Jacksonville. Detroit will be tough next week, but Jacobs looks like a weekly RB1.
WR: CeeDee Lamb, DAL
After a modest start to last night with the Dallas offense struggling to find its footing, Lamb took over in the fourth quarter—finishing with 13 receptions (on 17 targets) for 146 yards and two touchdowns. The situation feels similar to last season when Lamb was unstoppable after the bye week, and he remains the top wideout to own the rest of the way.
WR: Ladd McConkey, LAC
A more conservative Los Angeles offense capped the ceiling for McConkey to begin his career, but he went off as Justin Herbert was given more opportunities—leading to six receptions (on six targets) for 111 yards and two touchdowns. In particular, the big-play ability of McConkey was on full display, and his arrow is pointing up as a FLEX option.
TE: Cade Otton, TB
“Everyone” could really be used here with almost every key player at the position coming through on National Tight Ends Day—which ended up being a record-breaking day for the position with 16 touchdowns. Otton led the way by going for a 9/81/2 line to pick up the slack with Chris Godwin (ankle) and Mike Evans (hamstring) out, and he will be an important target for Baker Mayfield over at least the next couple of games.
FLEX: Cedric Tillman, CLE
De’Von Achane or another tight end like Kyle Pitts could have the nod here as a more widely used option, but Tillman was great in Jameis Winston’s first start—catching seven-of-nine targets for 99 yards and two touchdowns, including the game winner in the final minute from 38 yards out. The second-year wideout is someone we liked coming out of Tennessee and should be considered as an add this week.
D/ST: Detroit Lions
Detroit struggled to contain Calvin Ridley in the first half and saw Mason Rudolph make same nice throws to move the ball—but their chaos allowed them to rack up four takeaways with the real boost coming on a punt return touchdown by Kalif Raymond. The Lions were even close to breaking a couple of more return touchdowns, and we’ll see if they add a pass rusher over the next week.
K: Anders Carlson, SF
The uncertainty around the kicking situation in San Francisco with Carlson struggling in Green Bay to begin his career made him someone to potentially avoid despite the team he plays for—but he’s been great through two games, including 16.0 fantasy points against the Cowboys.
Surprise of the Week: Isaac Guerendo
Guerendo has flashed his speed on limited action to begin 2024, and he emerged on Sunday Night Football with 14 carries for 85 yards (6.1 YPC) and a touchdown—the first of his career. The 49ers could have Christian McCaffrey (calf/Achilles) back following the bye, but Guerendo’s play, Jordan Mason’s tricky shoulder injury, and the mystery around McCaffrey makes the rookie someone to consider on the waiver wire.
Disappointment of the Week: Jordan Mason
The timing with many needing just a few points to win their fantasy matchup made it even more of a disappointment, as Mason spent most of the night as a spectator due to his shoulder injury—making it the second time it’s happened over the past three games. Now, the Niners potentially getting Christian McCaffrey back and having Isaac Guerendo step up could drain the value of Mason despite his strong play so far this season.
Rookie of the Week: Bo Nix
Nix was lights out in the win over Carolina—completing 28-of-37 passes for 284 yards and three touchdowns while also adding a one-yard rushing touchdown for his fourth score on the ground through eight games. We’ve been saying it’s only a matter of time before Nix broke out with a big outing through the air, and the confidence for him and the Denver offense should be high ahead of road matchups in Baltimore and Kansas City.
Week 8 MVP: Jalen Hurts
A late push was certainly made by CeeDee Lamb to close out Sunday’s action, but Hurts leads all fantasy scorers heading into Monday Night Football—and he’s now totaled five rushing touchdowns over the past two weeks. Jacksonville might not be an opponent that Philadelphia needs to press matters against in Week 9, but Hurts will again be a high-end QB1 with team-carrying upside.
