2024 Heisman Trophy Watch: Week 5

A few guys have separated themselves early, but there’s a new No. 1 in our Heisman watch this week.

1. Travis Hunter | Colorado WR/CB | Junior | Last week: 3 (+2)

Even as a two-way star, it generally takes a lot in today’s game to top the quarterbacks in Heisman voting. Well, Travis Hunter came through with a massive Heisman moment over the weekend, forcing a fumble in overtime to seal Colorado’s comeback win over Baylor.

Hunter also caught seven passes for 130 yards. He’s well on his way to earning a trip to New York at the very least.

Season stats:

37 REC | 472 REC YDS | 5 REC TD | 12.8 AVG

14 TKL | 1 TFL | 1 FF | 1 INT | 1 PD

2. Cam Ward | Miami QB | Senior (RS) | Last week: 2

South Florida is not an easy opponent, but Cam Ward racked up 447 total yards and threw three touchdowns (one interception) to help Miami get a 50-15 road win and improve to 4-0. Ward is in total control and playing at an extreme level of confidence with his new team.

Season stats:

72.4% | 1,439 PASS YDS | 14 PASS TD | 2 INT

12 CAR | 89 RUSH YDS | 1 RUSH TD | 7.4 AVG

3. Jalen Milroe | Alabama QB | Junior (RS) | Last week: 1 (-2)

Jalen Milroe and Alabama had off ahead of a huge matchup with Georgia—even with a loaded schedule, it’s clearly Milroe’s biggest battle during the regular season. Milroe had a solid showing in the SEC Championship Game last December versus the Dawgs.

Season stats:

67.3% | 590 PASS YDS | 8 PASS TD

36 CAR | 156 RUSH YDS | 6 RUSH TD | 4.3 AVG

4. Jaxson Dart | Ole Miss QB | Senior | Last week: 5 (+1)

Jaxson Dart had over 400 yards of total offense and tossed four touchdowns (one interception) as Ole Miss coasted against Georgia Southern. Kentucky’s defense will undoubtedly be the biggest test yet as the SEC schedule gets underway for Dart.

Season stats:

79.8% | 1,554 PASS YDS | 12 PASS TD | 2 INT

23 CAR | 90 RUSH YDS | 3 RUSH TD | 3.9 AVG

5. Ashton Jeanty | Boise State RB | Junior | Last week: 4 (-1)

After the top four, there are several players that could be mentioned here at No. 5. While Ashton Jeanty didn’t find the end zone this week, he ran 11 times for 127 yards, continuing his video-game-like yards-per-carry (10.5) numbers in 2024.

Season stats:

56 CAR | 586 RUSH YDS | 9 RUSH TD | 10.5 AVG

5 REC | 12 REC YDS | 2.4 AVG
