2023 MLB Power Rankings: June 12

The Mets fall outside the top 20 while the Marlins rise to No. 10 in this week’s 2023 MLB power rankings.

1. Tampa Bay Rays (48-20) | Last week: 1

A sweep of the AL Central-leading Twins and a weekend series win over the Rangers puts the Rays still clearly in the top spot in the power rankings with a comfortable lead for the best record in baseball. Tampa by far leads the majors in steals (87) and rank second in homers (112).

2. Texas Rangers (41-23) | Last week: 2

The series loss at Tampa was tough, but the Rangers return home to face the surging Angels to begin this week. Texas will sadly be without ace pitcher Jacob deGrom because of Tommy John surgery, but this team has been having plenty of success while deGrom has been out this season.

3. Atlanta Braves (40-25) | Last week: 6 (+3)

The Braves had three great comeback victories over the Mets, helping push New York to fourth in the division while staying 9.5 games up on them. Atlanta is hot to begin June, and they look like the definite top team in the NL after nearly 70 games.

4. Baltimore Orioles (41-24) | Last week: 3 (-1)

After dropping the first two games to the Brewers early last week, the Orioles bounced back to win four consecutive games including handling the Royals over the weekend. Late-inning success has been key for Baltimore this year.

5. Arizona Diamondbacks (40-25) | Last week: 8 (+3)

The Diamondbacks are tied with the Braves for the best record in the National League, and they’re another team that’s had success late in games with comebacks and rallies. They’ll host the improving Phillies for four games after just taking a series in Philadelphia less than a month ago.

6. New York Yankees (38-29) | Last week: 4 (-2)

The Yankees had a disappointing week that included series losses to the Sox teams. It feels like a major challenge for New York when Aaron Judge isn’t in the lineup.

7. Los Angeles Dodgers (37-29) | Last week: 5 (-2)

The Dodgers had a 6-0 win over the Reds and a 9-0 win over the Phillies, but they lost every other game last week and have now dropped three series in a row. It might be fair to ask whether LA is fully locked in considering the recent off-field controversy the franchise has been dealing with.

8. Toronto Blue Jays (37-30) | Last week: 9 (+1)

It was an up and down week for the Jays, as they took three of four from the Astros before losing two of three at home versus the Twins. We’ll see if yesterday’s three-run eighth inning to avoid the sweep helps with momentum heading into matchups at Baltimore and Texas.

9. Houston Astros (37-29) | Last week: 7 (-2)

The defending champs continue to be hit with injuries, with star slugger Yordan Alvarez now hitting the IL due to an oblique injury. After a 2-5 road trip, the Astros must turn it on against the Nats and Reds this week.

10. Miami Marlins (37-29) | Last week: 12 (+2)

The Marlins are doing what competitive teams should do, taking care of business versus inferior squads. Miami has won three straight series, and Luis Arraez is on .400 watch with an astonishing 13 strikeouts compared to 91 hits in 2023.

11. Los Angeles Angels (36-31) | Last week: 16 (+5)

12. Pittsburgh Pirates (34-30) | Last week: 13 (+1)

13. Philadelphia Phillies (32-33) | Last week: 18 (+5)

14. Milwaukee Brewers (34-32) | Last week: 10 (-4)

15. Minnesota Twins (33-33) | Last week: 11 (-4)

16. Boston Red Sox (33-33) | Last week: 15 (-1)

17. San Francisco Giants (33-32) | Last week: 19 (+2)

18. San Diego Padres (31-34) | Last week: 20 (+2)

19. Cleveland Guardians (31-34) | Last week: 21 (+2)

20. Seattle Mariners (31-33) | Last week: 17 (-3)

21. New York Mets (31-35) | Last week: 14 (-7)

22. Cincinnati Reds (31-35) | Last week: 24 (+2)

23. Chicago White Sox (29-38) | Last week: 25 (+2)

24. Chicago Cubs (28-37) | Last week: 22 (-2)

25. St. Louis Cardinals (27-39) | Last week: 26 (+1)

26. Washington Nationals (26-38) | Last week: 27 (+1)

27. Detroit Tigers (26-37) | Last week: 23 (-4)

28. Colorado Rockies (27-40) | Last week: 28

29. Oakland Athletics (17-50) | Last week: 30 (+1)

30. Kansas City Royals (18-47) | Last week: 29 (-1)
