2023 MLB Power Rankings: June 5

The top several teams in Major League Baseball have seemingly separated themselves in early June, but this week’s power rankings include a lot of shuffling outside the top ten.

1. Tampa Bay Rays (42-19) | Last week: 1

After losing three of four to start the week, the Rays won at Fenway Park on Saturday and Sunday and will now look to complete a four-game stint this afternoon by taking three games versus the Red Sox.

2. Texas Rangers (38-20) | Last week: 2

The Rangers are coming off a complete drubbing of the Mariners, shutting down the momentum Seattle had been building. Texas has elite offense and pitching, and they have an easy case for the No. 1 spot in the power rankings.

3. Baltimore Orioles (37-22) | Last week: 3

Even in a loaded American League that holds five of the top six records in baseball, the Orioles are holding their own. Baltimore scored 8+ runs three times last week.

4. New York Yankees (36-25) | Last week: 7 (+3)

Strong starting pitching from Gerrit Cole and Domingo German over the weekend helped the Yankees get a huge road series victory over the Dodgers. However, while they were beginning to get healthier, the Yankees might now be without Aaron Judge again due to a toe injury.

5. Los Angeles Dodgers (35-25) | Last week: 4 (-1)

The Dodgers ultimately lost and dropped the home series to the Yankees, but rookie starter Bobby Miller was excellent in six shutout innings (one hit, seven strikeouts) yesterday.

6. Atlanta Braves (35-24) | Last week: 5 (-1)

The top team in the National League by record, the Braves could be higher than this in the rankings, but they’ve had a relatively tough stretch as of late—including a series loss to the A’s.

7. Houston Astros (35-24) | Last week: 6 (-1)

The Astros took three of four from the Angels while asserting themselves as a clear top-two team in the AL West and remaining within striking distance of the Rangers. Four games against the Jays to start this week should be a fun matchup.

8. Arizona Diamondbacks (35-25) | Last week: 9 (+1)

Corbin Carroll’s walk-off hit against the Rockies last Thursday completed a four-game sweep for the D-Backs, and they were able to take one from the NL-leading Braves over the weekend. Arizona must take advantage of series at Washington and Detroit this week.

9. Toronto Blue Jays (33-27) | Last week: 17 (+8)

The Jays are getting hot, with three consecutive series victories at Minnesota, vs. Milwaukee, and a sweep at the Mets. The pitching did a lot of the heavy lifting, and we’ll see if Toronto can get the bats going more consistently.

10. Milwaukee Brewers (32-27) | Last week: 10

The final spot in the top ten came down to the AL Central-leading Twins and the NL Central-leading Brewers. Milwaukee swept the Reds, and the Cardinals continue to struggle to win games—though the Pirates have won five in a row and are just 0.5 game back in the division.

11. Minnesota Twins (31-29) | Last week: 15 (+4)

12. Miami Marlins (32-28) | Last week: 12

13. Pittsburgh Pirates (31-27) | Last week: 20 (+7)

14. New York Mets (30-30) | Last week: 13 (-1)

15. Boston Red Sox (30-29) | Last week: 11 (-4)

16. Los Angeles Angels (31-30) | Last week: 14 (-2)

17. Seattle Mariners (29-30) | Last week: 8 (-9)

18. Philadelphia Phillies (27-32) | Last week: 16 (-2)

19. San Francisco Giants (29-30) | Last week: 18 (-1)

20. San Diego Padres (27-32) | Last week: 22 (+2)

21. Cleveland Guardians (27-32) | Last week: 24 (+3)

22. Chicago Cubs (26-32) | Last week: 26 (+4)

23. Detroit Tigers (26-31) | Last week: 19 (-4)

24. Cincinnati Reds (26-33) | Last week: 23 (-1)

25. Chicago White Sox (26-35) | Last week: 28 (+3)

26. St. Louis Cardinals (25-35) | Last week: 21 (-5)

27. Washington Nationals (25-34) | Last week: 27

28. Colorado Rockies (26-35) | Last week: 25 (-3)

29. Kansas City Royals (18-41) | Last week: 29

30. Oakland Athletics (12-49) | Last week: 30
