While several teams have separated themselves so far, there’ll be much shuffling throughout the 2024 MLB power rankings as the season continues to progress.
1. Atlanta Braves (19-7) | Last week: 3 (+2)
After sweeping the Marlins, the Braves took two-of-three from a Guardians club that’s off to a fantastic start. The series victory over Cleveland was capped by Austin Riley’s walk-off single yesterday in extras.
2. New York Yankees (19-10) | Last week: 2
Avenging a Friday loss, the Yankees hammered the Brewers with 15 runs each game on Saturday and Sunday. It’s early, but a four-game stint in Baltimore will be fun.
3. Philadelphia Phillies (19-10) | Last week: 4 (+1)
The starting pitching for Philadelphia continues to be electric, and the offense appears to be catching fire. Brandon Marsh (.291, six home runs) has been one of the top breakout players in baseball.
4. Baltimore Orioles (17-10) | Last week: 1 (-3)
The Orioles are coming off a series loss to the A’s, and the bullpen is a cause for concern right now. Top prospect Jackson Holliday was sent down by Baltimore after a slow start to his big-league career, but he’s still just 20 years old and someone to keep an eye on throughout the year.
5. Los Angeles Dodgers (18-12) | Last week: 6 (+1)
Dodgers pitching has allowed run totals of 0, 1, 2, 1, 2, 2, and 3 over their past seven games. LA has two tough tests this week versus the Diamondbacks and Braves.
6. Cleveland Guardians (19-9) | Last week: 5 (-1)
The Guardians lost in tough fashion yesterday in Atlanta, but they’ve obviously played like a legitimate contender through nearly 30 games. They’ll look to push further ahead of the struggling Astros in the American League to begin this week.
7. Texas Rangers (15-14) | Last week: 7
The bats for the Rangers have been in a slump the past couple of weeks, so we’ll see if matchups with the Nationals and Royals can get them going.
8. Milwaukee Brewers (17-10) | Last week: 8
Milwaukee took a beating from the Yankees offense, and they’re now below .500 at home this year compared to 12-4 on the road.
9. Chicago Cubs (17-11) | Last week: 9
The Cubs host the Brewers in a key early-season NL Central matchup this weekend, but first they’ll go to Citi Field to face the Mets for four games.
10. Minnesota Twins (14-13) | Last week: 23 (+13)
A seven-game winning streak got the Twins on track and into the top ten of this week’s power rankings. Their streak shows how quickly things can change in baseball, especially with a crowded field to this point.
11. Boston Red Sox (16-13) | Last week: 10 (-1)
12. Kansas City Royals (17-12) | Last week: 12
13. Seattle Mariners (15-13) | Last week: 18 (+5)
14. Cincinnati Reds (15-13) | Last week: 11 (-3)
15. Detroit Tigers (16-12) | Last week: 20 (+5)
16. Arizona Diamondbacks (13-16) | Last week: 14 (-2)
17. New York Mets (14-13) | Last week: 16 (-1)
18. Toronto Blue Jays (14-15) | Last week: 13 (-5)
19. Tampa Bay Rays (13-16) | Last week: 15 (-4)
20. Pittsburgh Pirates (14-15) | Last week: 19 (-1)
21. San Francisco Giants (14-15) | Last week: 24 (+3)
22. St. Louis Cardinals (13-15) | Last week: 25 (+3)
23. San Diego Padres (14-17) | Last week: 17 (-6)
24. Washington Nationals (13-14) | Last week: 21 (-3)
25. Houston Astros (9-19) | Last week: 22 (-3)
26. Oakland Athletics (12-17) | Last week: 27 (+1)
27. Los Angeles Angels (10-18) | Last week: 26 (-1)
28. Colorado Rockies (7-21) | Last week: 29 (+1)
29. Chicago White Sox (6-22) | Last week: 30 (+1)
30. Miami Marlins (6-23) | Last week: 28 (-2)
