There’s finally a new No. 1 in the MLB power rankings aside from the Yankees or Phillies.
1. Baltimore Orioles (47-24) | Last week: 3 (+2)
Baltimore took care of business against two National League contenders in Atlanta and Philadelphia, winning each series ahead of a massive mid-season matchup with the Yankees in the Bronx to begin this week.
2. Philadelphia Phillies (47-24) | Last week: 1 (-1)
While the Phillies lost both series—to the Red Sox and Orioles—last week, keep in mind that they made a trip to London that can throw things off. Also, they are a very beat up club, with J.T. Realmuto (knee) now also out. But Brandon Marsh recently returned, and star Trea Turner is set to come back today.
3. New York Yankees (50-24) | Last week: 2 (-1)
The Yankees have dropped three of the past four games, but a clash with the Orioles to begin this week—potentially with Gerrit Cole making his 2024 debut—should wake up the first team in the majors to 50 wins this season.
4. Los Angeles Dodgers (44-29) | Last week: 4
Both Mookie Betts (fractured hand) and Yoshinobu Yamamoto (strained rotator cuff) are going to miss time for the Dodgers, continuing the trend of numerous injuries around the MLB this year. It probably comes at a good time, though, with the Rockies, Angels, and White Sox up next on the schedule.
5. Cleveland Guardians (44-25) | Last week: 5
The Guardians could not complete the comeback at the Jays yesterday, dropping the three-game series. Before facing Toronto again this weekend, Cleveland has a first-place matchup with the Mariners.
6. Milwaukee Brewers (42-29) | Last week: 6
The Brewers will look to make it four consecutive series victories when taking on the Angels starting today in a West Coast trip that’ll include four games at San Diego.
7. Seattle Mariners (43-31) | Last week: 9 (+2)
Riding high after a three-game sweep of the defending champion Rangers, the Mariners have the biggest division lead in the majors at 8.5 games. Imagine if Julio Rodriguez (two homers in the past four games) gets going.
8. Atlanta Braves (38-31) | Last week: 7 (-1)
After losing five games in a row, the Braves were able to avoid a sweep at Baltimore while winning three of their past four games—and the bats got going in that stretch with run totals of six, seven, nine, and six.
9. Minnesota Twins (40-32) | Last week: 10 (+1)
The Twins needed to take advantage of a good schedule on paper, and they certainly did by going 6-1 versus the Rockies and A’s—headlined by a 17-run outburst on Wednesday.
10. Kansas City Royals (41-32) | Last week: 8 (-2)
Similarly, the Royals will look to take their upcoming series versus Oakland as an opportunity to get on track after series losses to the Yankees and Dodgers last week.
11. Boston Red Sox (37-35) | Last week: 11
12. St. Louis Cardinals (35-35) | Last week: 16 (+4)
13. San Diego Padres (37-38) | Last week: 12 (-1)
14. Toronto Blue Jays (35-36) | Last week: 15 (+1)
15. Arizona Diamondbacks (35-37) | Last week: 22 (+7)
16. Washington Nationals (35-36) | Last week: 23 (+7)
17. Cincinnati Reds (34-37) | Last week: 13 (-4)
18. San Francisco Giants (35-37) | Last week: 19 (+1)
19. Pittsburgh Pirates (34-37) | Last week: 21 (+2)
20. Texas Rangers (33-38) | Last week: 14 (-6)
21. Chicago Cubs (34-38) | Last week: 18 (-3)
22. Detroit Tigers (34-37) | Last week: 17 (-5)
23. New York Mets (33-37) | Last week: 25 (+2)
24. Tampa Bay Rays (34-38) | Last week: 20 (-4)
25. Houston Astros (33-39) | Last week: 24 (-1)
26. Los Angeles Angels (28-43) | Last week: 26
27. Colorado Rockies (25-46) | Last week: 28 (+1)
28. Oakland Athletics (26-48) | Last week: 27 (-1)
29. Miami Marlins (23-48) | Last week: 29
30. Chicago White Sox (19-54) | Last week: 30
