There’s another new No. 1 in this week’s MLB power rankings.
1. Philadelphia Phillies (24-11) | Last week: 3 (+2)
Philadelphia is 16-3 in their past 19 games and has the look of a juggernaut with the combination of hitting and starting pitching. Star shortstop Trea Turner will miss over a month with a hamstring injury, but the Phillies are rolling.
2. Baltimore Orioles (23-11) | Last week: 4 (+2)
The Orioles took three-of-four from the Yankees to begin last week and followed it up with a three-game sweep of the Reds during which they allowed just two runs.
3. Los Angeles Dodgers (23-13) | Last week: 5 (+2)
In a battle of National League powers, the Dodgers swept the Braves, capped by two homers by Shohei Ohtani yesterday. LA is hot ahead of a matchup with the Marlins.
4. New York Yankees (23-13) | Last week: 2 (-2)
At least the Yankees bounced back from their down four games versus the Orioles by sweeping the Tigers. Aaron Judge was ejected for the first time ever over the weekend, and he returned with a homer on Sunday.
5. Atlanta Braves (20-12) | Last week: 1 (-4)
The Braves’ high-powered offense is in a bit of a slump. Perhaps a couple of days off this week amidst action with the Red Sox and Mets will help them get back on track.
6. Cleveland Guardians (22-12) | Last week: 6
The Guardians ended their series losing streak at two, and they’re still keeping pace atop an AL Central that’s been stronger than expected to this point.
7. Texas Rangers (19-16) | Last week: 7
Texas has won three series in a row, and next up is an Athletics squad that’s on a hot streak. After facing Oakland, the Rangers go to Colorado, so there’s an opportunity to stack some wins.
8. Minnesota Twins (19-14) | Last week: 10 (+2)
The winning streak for Minnesota ended at 12 games, but it helped erase a slow start to the year and has them squarely in the early AL playoff mix.
9. Chicago Cubs (21-14) | Last week: 9
The Cubs held off the Brewers on Saturday night and won in a 5-0 shutout yesterday at Wrigley Field to take the weekend series. Chicago is 12-5 at home this season.
10. Milwaukee Brewers (20-13) | Last week: 8 (-2)
The late rally in the second game of the series didn’t lead to a victory, but it was a solid week that started with a series victory against the Rays. The Brewers have exceeded expectations past the 30-game mark.
11. Seattle Mariners (19-15) | Last week: 13 (+2)
12. Boston Red Sox (19-16) | Last week: 11 (-1)
13. Kansas City Royals (20-15) | Last week: 12 (-1)
14. Tampa Bay Rays (17-18) | Last week: 19 (+5)
15. San Diego Padres (18-19) | Last week: 23 (+8)
16. Washington Nationals (17-17) | Last week: 24 (-8)
17. Detroit Tigers (18-16) | Last week: 15 (-2)
18. Arizona Diamondbacks (15-20) | Last week: 16 (-2)
19. Oakland Athletics (17-18) | Last week: 26 (+7)
20. Toronto Blue Jays (16-19) | Last week: 18 (-2)
21. Cincinnati Reds (16-18) | Last week: 14 (-7)
22. New York Mets (16-18) | Last week: 17 (-5)
23. Pittsburgh Pirates (16-19) | Last week: 20 (-3)
24. Houston Astros (12-22) | Last week: 25 (+1)
25. St. Louis Cardinals (15-19) | Last week: 22 (-3)
26. San Francisco Giants (15-20) | Last week: 21 (-5)
27. Los Angeles Angels (12-22) | Last week: 27
28. Miami Marlins (10-26) | Last week: 30 (+2)
