Key to the Series: The Stars

Both the Yankees and Dodgers are loaded with talent, and this series will likely hinge on which team’s stars shine brightest. The likely AL MVP (Aaron Judge) and likely NL MVP (Shohei Ohtani) are among the headliners of five past MVPs (Judge, Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Giancarlo Stanton) in the series. And that’s without mentioning Yankees star Juan Soto, who is hitting .368 with three homers this postseason and might be the best hitter in baseball.

Also, these squads had the best records in their respective leagues during the regular season, so they’ve been on this path all year and have also been playing well at the right time.

It’s fitting that the latest chapter in the New York vs. Los Angeles rivalry will center around the stars. Particularly in the biggest moments—with runners in scoring position, with two outs, in the late innings—the stars could very well determine the direction of the series.

One extra note, Ohtani will not pitch in this series despite previous speculation that he could potentially come out of the bullpen. But we know he can do plenty of damage solely at the plate.

Prediction

Many feel the Yankees have had an “easier” path to the Fall Classic, with the Dodgers knocking off the streaking rival Padres and the red-hot Mets in the National League. Los Angeles has smashed 20 homers, but the Yankees should have the pitching advantage and might be able to get more depth from their starting pitching if this is a long series. Ultimately, Soto caps his first season in New York with a championship that leads to a long-term contract this offseason.
