2025 MLB Power Rankings: June 2

The Tigers are back on top of the first MLB power rankings of June following a 5-1 week to give them the best record in baseball.

1. Detroit Tigers (39-21) | Last week: 2 (+1)

Tarik Skubal pitched another gem to close out May, and he allowed just four hits with 20 strikeouts across 16.0 scoreless innings over the past two games. Despite the AL Central being the only division with four teams above .500, the Tigers have the biggest division lead in the majors (6.0 games).

2. Los Angeles Dodgers (36-23) | Last week: 3 (+1)

Yoshinobu Yamamoto was stung by the Yankees yesterday and the loaded top four of the lineup failed to record a hit, but Los Angeles won the first two games to take the World Series rematch over the weekend. The highlight was LA’s 18-2 win on Saturday that was headlined by Max Muncy crushing two home runs and recording 7 RBI.

3. New York Mets (37-22) | Last week: 5 (+2)

As expected, the Mets were able to beat up on the White Sox and Rockies—which, combined with Philadelphia’s struggles, vaulted them back atop the NL East. Another battle versus the Dodgers (this time four games) begins tonight in Los Angeles.

4. New York Yankees (36-22) | Last week: 4

New York deserves credit for a bounce-back effort on Sunday Night Baseball, and their California trip at least began with a sweep of the Angels. Looking ahead to October, Aaron Judge might have added confidence for a possible World Series rematch with five hits and three homers in the two losses to the Dodgers.

5. Philadelphia Phillies (36-23) | Last week: 1 (-4)

The Phillies were rolling with an 11-1 stretch that included a series win versus the Braves to push Atlanta further down the standings—but they’ve since lost four in a row, including getting swept at home by the Brewers. We’ll see if Bryce Harper (elbow) is back in the lineup starting tomorrow night in Toronto to provide a jolt.

6. Chicago Cubs (37-22) | Last week: 6

Chicago is tied for the most wins in the NL, and the showdown versus the Tigers this weekend could suddenly be for the best record in all of baseball. The Cubs have two of the four players in the MLB with 50+ RBI already this season: Seiya Suzuki (52) and Pete Crow-Armstrong (51).

7. San Diego Padres (33-24) | Last week: 8 (+1)

San Diego has won three consecutive series since a five-game losing streak pushed them down the NL West standings, and they’re now only one game back from the Dodgers in the loss column. Last year’s NL Rookie of the Year runner up Jackson Merrill has taken his game to another level so far in 2025 with a .331 average.

8. St. Louis Cardinals (33-26) | Last week: 9 (+1)

Although it’s a short-term issue, the Cardinals placing Jordan Walker (wrist) on the IL just when the former first-rounder was finally heating up is unfortunate timing. Still, the Cardinals are in a good spot heading back home—where they are 19-8—for series against the Royals, Dodgers, and Blue Jays.

9. San Francisco Giants (33-26) | Last week: 7 (-2)

San Francisco moves down after being swept by the Tigers, but the silver lining is that all three games were close. Overall, the bats for San Francisco have really quieted down with 2.14 runs per game over their past 14 outings—a stretch that has included zero games with at least five runs scored.

10. Seattle Mariners (32-26) | Last week: 10

Cole Young—one of Seattle’s top prospects—had a walk-off RBI in his MLB debut on Saturday, and it was a crazy week with almost the exact same scenario (a walk-off RBI on a chopper up the first base line) also playing out in his final full minor league game. The Mariners may need some more magic to hold off the surging Astros in the AL West.

11. Houston Astros (32-27) | Last week: 14 (+3)

12. Cleveland Guardians (32-26) | Last week: 12

13. Milwaukee Brewers (32-28) | Last week: 19 (+6)

14. Minnesota Twins (31-27) | Last week: 11 (-3)

15. Toronto Blue Jays (31-28) | Last week: 22 (+7)

16. Kansas City Royals (31-29) | Last week: 13 (-3)

17. Tampa Bay Rays (30-29) | Last week: 18 (+1)

18. Texas Rangers (29-31) | Last week: 20 (+2)

19. Boston Red Sox (29-32) | Last week: 17 (-2)

20. Atlanta Braves (27-31) | Last week: 15 (-5)

21. Arizona Diamondbacks (28-31) | Last week: 16 (-5)

22. Cincinnati Reds (29-31) | Last week: 21 (-1)

23. Washington Nationals (28-31) | Last week: 24 (+1)

24. Los Angeles Angels (26-32) | Last week: 23 (-1)

25. Miami Marlins (23-34) | Last week: 26 (+1)

26. Oakland Athletics (23-37) | Last week: 25 (-1)

27. Baltimore Orioles (22-36) | Last week: 27

28. Pittsburgh Pirates (22-38) | Last week: 28

29. Chicago White Sox (18-41) | Last week: 29

30. Colorado Rockies (9-50) | Last week: 30
