The biggest risers in this week’s power rankings are the Cardinals and Twins—who went a combined 12-0 over the past seven days.
1. Los Angeles Dodgers (27-14) | Last week: 1
The Dodgers scored at least seven runs in all four of their wins last week, and the highlight was a 14-run outburst in Arizona with six runs in the ninth inning to get the victory. However, they wanted to be better than 4-3 versus the Marlins and Diamondbacks with San Diego and San Francisco close in the NL West.
2. Detroit Tigers (26-15) | Last week: 2
Detroit also wishes the week went a little better for them with a series loss to the Rangers—but things got started with an easy road sweep of the Rockies. Following a 12-strikeout performance on Friday, ace Tarik Skubal is down to a 2.08 ERA.
3. New York Mets (26-15) | Last week: 4 (+1)
New York bounced back from a series loss against the Cardinals last weekend to get a couple of W-L-W series victories versus the Diamondbacks and Cubs. This weekend brings the highly anticipated Subway Series at Yankee Stadium.
4. San Diego Padres (25-14) | Last week: 3 (-1)
Although a 3-3 week knocked San Diego down a spot, they played the Yankees tough with a series loss coming down to extra innings, and it was followed up by scoring a combined 34 runs in the first two games in Colorado. The Padres return home for matchups against the Angels and Mariners.
5. Philadelphia Phillies (24-16) | Last week: 6 (+1)
Philadelphia has continued to roll as of late, and last week saw them sweep the Rays and take two-of-three from the Guardians. Looking ahead, the schedule appears relatively easy for the next month, including the emerging Braves and first-place Mets coming to Philadelphia.
6. New York Yankees (23-17) | Last week: 5 (-1)
The Yankees drop a spot simply because the Phillies have been hot, but a four-hit game from Aaron Judge yesterday boosted him back up to a .409 average after a very brief stint below .400. Max Friend’s numbers on the mound have been similarly phenomenal with one run allowed in 7.0 innings causing his ERA to go up from 1.01 to 1.05.
7. San Francisco Giants (24-17) | Last week: 7
San Francisco could have been moved down after getting swept by the Twins, but we’ll give them the benefit of the doubt with all three games being close on the road. It’s important to get back on track with a nine-game homestand to remain within striking distance of the Dodgers, though.
8. Kansas City Royals (24-18) | Last week: 11 (+3)
Maybe the jump is giving Kansas City too much credit with their seven-game winning streak (before it was snapped with a series loss to Boston) being helped by four games versus the White Sox—but the AL Central is tightening. Overall, the Royals have the most home wins in baseball (16).
9. Chicago Cubs (23-18) | Last week: 8 (-1)
The Cubs were basically required to drop a spot with Pope Leo XIV being a White Sox fan, but they also went 2-4 over the past week. Fortunately for them, a shot at the Pope’s preferred Chicago team will come this weekend, and it’s a chance for the Cubs to pick up some wins.
10. Cleveland Guardians (23-17) | Last week: 10
Momentum was on Cleveland’s side with three straight wins that includes a shutout victory over Philadelphia, but they dropped both games over the weekend to remain in the No. 10 spot. Getting silenced by Ranger Saurez and Zack Wheeler shouldn’t create any panic moving forward.
11. Seattle Mariners (22-17) | Last week: 9 (-2)
12. Atlanta Braves (19-21) | Last week: 13 (+1)
13. St. Louis Cardinals (22-19) | Last week: 22 (+9)
14. Arizona Diamondbacks (21-20) | Last week: 12 (-2)
15. Boston Red Sox (22-20) | Last week: 15
16. Houston Astros (20-19) | Last week: 14 (-2)
17. Minnesota Twins (21-20) | Last week: 24 (+7)
18. Oakland Athletics (21-20) | Last week: 17 (-1)
19. Texas Rangers (20-21) | Last week: 18 (-1)
20. Milwaukee Brewers (20-21) | Last week: 19 (-1)
21. Toronto Blue Jays (20-20) | Last week: 21
22. Cincinnati Reds (20-22) | Last week: 17 (-5)
23. Tampa Bay Rays (18-22) | Last week: 20 (-3)
24. Washington Nationals (17-24) | Last week: 23 (-1)
25. Los Angeles Angels (16-23) | Last week: 26 (+1)
26. Baltimore Orioles (15-24) | Last week: 25 (-1)
27. Miami Marlins (15-24) | Last week: 27
28. Pittsburgh Pirates (14-27) | Last week: 28
29. Chicago White Sox (12-29) | Last week: 29
30. Colorado Rockies (7-33) | Last week: 30
