MLB Power Rankings: Where Every Team Stands in July

The Blue Jays are suddenly atop the AL East, and they vault up our MLB power rankings ahead of the final week before the All-Star break.

1. Detroit Tigers (57-34) | Last week: 1

We have nearly full three months to go until the postseason, but the Tigers bettered the Dodgers by a game over the past week—and homefield advantage for a potential World Series matchup makes every game important. Matt Vierling returning at the end of last month from a tricky shoulder injury further boosted Detroit’s lineup.

2. Houston Astros (55-35) | Last week: 3 (+1)

The Astros brought the fireworks on the 4th of July with an 18-1 win over the Dodgers, and the momentum carried over into Saturday and Sunday by completing a statement-making sweep. With six games back at home before the All-Star break, manager Joe Espada must feel great about his club.

3. Los Angeles Dodgers (56-35) | Last week: 2 (-1)

The MLB World Series odds continue to have the Dodgers as heavy favorites (+220), but they had to drop a spot after suffering the sweep to Houston at home. Still, the rest of the NL West falling off has Los Angeles with a 7.0-game cushion in the division.

4. Philadelphia Phillies (53-37) | Last week: 4

All-Star selections headline the latest MLB news, and Trea Turner—who leads the NL in hits (109) by more than 10 compared to second place—was as clear of a snub as you will get. Ranger Suárez (1.99 ERA) and Christopher Sanchez (2.68 ERA) also should have made it, and maybe the trio will have a bit of an edge moving forward.

5. Chicago Cubs (54-36) | Last week: 5

The Cubs are rolling after a 5-1 week, and taking care of the rival Cardinals with a series win over the weekend put 6.5 games of separation between them (with the Brewers at 4.0 games back). Rumors connecting Pirates star third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes to Chicago are interesting.

6. Toronto Blue Jays (52-38) | Last week: 13 (+7)

An unbelievable six-game swing has seen the Blue Jays go from trailing in the AL East by 3.0 games last week to now leading the division by 3.0 games—getting a four-game sweep over the Yankees and then winning three close games against the Angels. Toronto has won eight in a row and might not be stopped before the break with the White Sox and A’s up next.

7. New York Mets (52-39) | Last week: 7

The Mets bounced back from major struggles with series wins over the Brewers and Yankees, and putting Francisco Lindor at No. 2 in the lineup after leading off all season has worked out so far with a 4-1 record. Two-time Home Run Derby champion Pete Alonso declining to participate for the first time might have something to do with staying hot with a .287 average so far in 2025.

8. New York Yankees (49-41) | Last week: 6 (-2)

New York is 14-19 since the start of June, and they suddenly find themselves fending off Wild Card contenders with a tough schedule for the rest of July (v SEA, v CHC, @ ATL, @ TOR, v PHI, v TB). Fortunately, a sweep was avoided against the Mets in large part due to a highlight defensive play by Cody Bellinger yesterday.

9. Tampa Bay Rays (49-41) | Last week: 8 (-1)

The Rays were threatening the Yankees in June, but they joined New York in getting leaped by the Blue Jays—dropping series against the A’s and Twins over the past week. We’ll see if Tampa Bay can quickly rebound for a difficult test in Detroit before traveling to face a lurking Boston squad.

10. Milwaukee Brewers (50-40) | Last week: 9 (-1)

Milwaukee cooled off with a 3-3 week, but Brandon Woodruff was lights out in his first game in nearly two years—going 6.0 innings with eight strikeouts and one run (on two hits) allowed. How the Brewers fare versus the Dodgers starting tonight and then coming out of the All-Star break could determine if they are buyers or sellers at the trade deadline.

11. San Diego Padres (48-41) | Last week: 11

12. San Francisco Giants (49-42) | Last week: 12

13. Seattle Mariners (48-42) | Last week: 15 (+2)

14. St. Louis Cardinals (48-43) | Last week: 10 (-4)

15. Cincinnati Reds (46-44) | Last week: 14 (-1)

16. Boston Red Sox (46-45) | Last week: 20 (+4)

17. Arizona Diamondbacks (44-46) | Last week: 16 (-1)

18. Texas Rangers (44-46) | Last week: 18

19. Los Angeles Angels (43-46) | Last week: 17 (-2)

20. Minnesota Twins (43-47) | Last week: 22 (+2)

21. Kansas City Royals (43-48) | Last week: 23 (+2)

22. Miami Marlins (40-48) | Last week: 25 (+3)

23. Baltimore Orioles (40-49) | Last week: 24 (+1)

24. Atlanta Braves (39-50) | Last week: 21 (-3)

25. Cleveland Guardians (40-48) | Last week: 19 (-6)

26. Pittsburgh Pirates (38-53) | Last week: 26

27. Oakland Athletics (37-55) | Last week: 28 (+1)

28. Washington Nationals (37-53) | Last week: 27 (-1)

29. Chicago White Sox (30-60) | Last week: 29

30. Colorado Rockies (21-69) | Last week: 30
