Strengths

Blazing speed. Gets open from anywhere on the field. Accelerates to top speed in a flash. Ideal release speed when untouched. Consistently runs past cornerbacks on vertical routes. Tracks the deep ball well. Great feet. Extremely quick and elusive in the open field. Usually makes the first defender miss after the catch. Comes back to the ball and catches it in traffic. Excellent control when hitting the breaks. Knows the subtleties of route running. Can run complex downfield routes. Productive on screen passes. Difficult to keep up with on crosses and drags. Finds the hole against zone coverage. Played both outside and in the slot.

Weaknesses

Small hands and overall frame. More of a body-catcher than ball-snatcher. Very limited catch radius. Can struggle to get off the press. Needs to be more decisive when trying to sell underneath routes.

NFL comparison

Tyler Lockett – If I really wanted to reach for a projection, Wes Welker (despite a 4.65 40-yard dash) is the best comp for Andy Isabella, and I would use him in a similar role at the next level; however, Isabella’s current play style is much closer to Lockett as an undersized deep threat with elite speed.

Conclusion

Overall, Andy Isabella has the stature and quickness to dominate out of the slot, but his top-tier speed should allow him to succeed on the perimeter, too, which makes him a solid Day 2 selection. It will be interesting to see where Isabella lands and what kind of role the team envisions for him.
