Strengths

Smooth overall athlete. Quality size and length. Very good movement skills. Mismatch in the slot or our wide. Intelligent and patient as a route runner. Crisp at the top of his route on ins, outs, and corners. Has an understanding of space and can change route trajectory if needed. Quick to find a hole on second-chance plays. Plus long speed for the position. Creates easy separation on crosses and wheel routes. Good release and acceleration. Can be used on short passes to get the ball in space. Impressive body control. Effectively high points the ball. Athletic profile should allow him to dominate on goal-line fades. Tough and reliable in traffic. Good strength and balance as a runner. Big hands will hopefully lead to a decrease in drops. Has natural mirror skills and gives effort as a blocker.

Weaknesses

Inconsistent hands. Can struggle with passes off his frame. Might simply not have natural hands. Could improve as an in-line blocker/driver at the point of attack.

Conclusion

Overall, Hopkins is a potential mismatch nightmare as a move tight end, but he will need to cut down on the drops to reach his potential. While it will likely take some time to develop, the smoothness and overall effectiveness as a route runner makes him an excellent target on Day 2.
