Strengths

Elite athleticism. Prototypical size and length. Phenomenal natural receiving skills. Superb hand-eye coordination. Tremendous hands. Snatches everything near him. Strong and reliable. Dominant on the boundary. Gets his feet down on the sideline. Tracks the ball extremely well. Excellent and timing jumps or high-points. Acrobat that can contort his body in midair. Very smooth in and out of breaks. Impressive feet and change-of-direction skills. Crisp overall route runner. Can win inside or outside with a two-way release at the line of scrimmage. Plus deep speed. Gets the corner on his heels before making a break. Unphased in contested catch situations. Fearless on intermediate in-breaking routes. Works back to the ball. Tough and slippery with the ball in his hands. Top-tier run blocker in terms of both technique and effort. Gets his hands on the frame of a defender and drives.

 

Weaknesses

Can be disrupted by a cornerback using length a few yards off the line of scrimmage. Mostly ran a vertical route tree and rarely lined up in the slot. Could do a better job finding space underneath.

Conclusion

Overall, Mims is a dominant perimeter receiver with the size, athleticism, and ball skills to be one of the league’s top playmakers, and he should have the ability to thrive in the slot, too. Even in a deep class, I don’t think it would be a reach to consider Mims in the top 20.
