Strengths

Great overall size with tremendous length. Above-average athleticism. Thick lower half. Excellent overall power. Impressive bend for his size. Exceptional get-off on the edge. Swipe move knocks down the hands of offensive tackles. Very effective speed rush. Will get up to deflect passes at the line of scrimmage. Uses hands to keep blockers off his frame. Extremely rangy as a tackler due to size/athleticism. Engulfing when he’s close to his target. Very good speed and will track down ball-carriers. Great pursuit as a backside defender. Plus awareness and play recognition. Experience on both sides of the formation. Can line up inside to rush the passer. Uses strength/length to push the pocket. Will cut to create penetration.

Weaknesses

Lacks twitchiness if he doesn’t win early. Average agility as a pass rusher. Needs to show more counter-move effectiveness getting after the quarterback. Has trouble getting off blocks when engaged. Could play too high in general.

Conclusion

Overall, Turner is a lengthy, athletic edge defender that plays with very impressive bend for his size and possesses plenty of upside. He was often a stand-up rusher at Houston, but the best fit in the NFL projects to be as a 4-3 defensive end.
