Strengths

Prototype overall size with plus length. Elite athleticism and explosiveness. Tremendous range. Uses quickness to shoot a gap and tackle the tackle. Natural ability to strafe his way to a spot while keeping his eyes on the ball. Great overall pursuit. Forceful finisher. Squares up and strikes the chest of ball-carriers. Willing to meet runners in the hole. Extremely quick to breakdown in space. High awareness and overall feel in zone coverage. Stays on his toes and is prepared to move wherever the action is. Can turn and run with running backs and tight ends. Knows his responsibility in coverage. Fast getting out to cover the flat. Very good ball skills with the size/speed to get in passing lanes. Great closing burst as a blitzer. Experience lining up as middle linebacker to overhang/slot position.

Weaknesses

One-year starter. Could show more strength/physicality taking on blockers. Pad level can get too high. Appears a step slow seeing things at times. Not as instinctive in traffic. Needs to clean up pursuit angles to be steeper rather than too direct towards the sideline. Doesn’t always appear quite as fast as the athletic testing.

Conclusion

Overall, Davis is a big, athletic, and rangy linebacker that will make an impact against both the run and pass. He should be a prime target on Day 2 for teams that miss out on the top-tier options at the position.
