Strengths

Strong frame with plus length. Thick lower half. Very aggressive player that will make the entire offensive line meaner. Hands are huge and powerful. Impressive bend in his knees and hips. Able to power opponents to the ground. Will uproot and drive the opposition when he has accurate hand placement in the running game. Accurate and efficient to redirect blocks. Can blow opponents back on down blocks. Slides very smoothly in pass protection. Extremely strong anchor in pass protection. Quick out of his stance. Able to recover when beaten early as a pass blocker. Very good acceleration out in space. Plays hard. Always seems to come away with fumbles. Athleticism and hustle shown in fumble recovery versus Houston (2021). Has the skillset set play guard.

Weaknesses

Needs to reign everything in and still putting it together. Hand placement needs to be cleaned up. Commits far too many holding penalties. Grabs when he feels an opponent beat him. Has a natural inclination to hug/wrap at times on the second level. Has somewhat of a gathering motion in movements that can be cut down. Could be more prepared to stop inside attacks.

Conclusion

Overall, Smith is an aggressive offensive lineman with the traits and mindset to become a difference-maker. It will take coaching and discipline to polish some of the weaknesses, but Smith can be a good value in the second round for teams with a development plan for him.
