Strengths

Very light and athletic movement skills. Tremendous speed. Great feet. Very fluid opening out of the press. Mostly played outside and battled bigger opponents. Natural stickiness in coverage. Competitive at the catch point. Excellent reaction time. Instant accelerator with the ability to jump routes. Keeps his hands on receivers inside five yards while moving feet to stick to them. Very smooth countering/reacting to releases in press coverage. Quick to erase drag routes. Poised and patience covering in the slot. Exceptional pattern recognition. Impressive overall play recognition. Great pursuit to the football. Extremely tough for his size. Unafraid of tackling and contact in general. Wraps up on the perimeter and a very effective tackler in space. Fantastic ball skills and production. Explosive kick and punt returner. Tremendous vision and agility to pair with speed. Had clutch kick return touchdown to beat SMU with 17 seconds to go (2021). Limited experience playing on offense.

Weaknesses

Below-average size in terms of height, weight, and length for the perimeter. Lack of size will give him trouble in contested catch situations. Allows wideouts behind him too easily downfield despite speed. Will struggle to get off blocks.

Conclusion

Overall, Jones is an explosive cornerback that best transitions into the slot as one of the best pound-for-pound defenders in the class. The added value as an elite returner only increases his stock as a worthy second-round pick.
